In the shop

SHOP-ASSISTANT: What can I do for you?

MARY: I want to buy that skirt over there. By the way, what colour is it? Is it green or blue?

SHOP-ASSISTANT: It's blue. This colour is in fashion now. And what's your size?

MARY: Size 14, I think.

SHOP-ASSISTANT: Here you are. But it's small, I'm afraid.

MARY: Yes, you are right. Give me a larger one, please.

SHOP-ASSISTANT: Here's a larger size. Is it all right?

MARY: Yes. How much is it?

SHOP-ASSISTANT: Nine pounds.

MARY: Oh, it's expensive, but I like it.

SHOP-ASSISTANT: The skirt is really very nice. I advise you to buy it.

  1. Bob’s new flat. (Любимцева С.Н. p. 76-77.)

BOB: Hello, Mike! Nice to see you.

MIKE: Hello, Bob! How's life? How do you like your new flat?

BOB: I like it very much.

MIKE: How many rooms are there in your flat?

BOB: There are three rooms, a kitchen, a hall and a bathroom.

MIKE: Is the kitchen large?

BOB: Yes, it's larger than my old one. By the way, the hall is

larger too. There’s a lot of built-in-furniture in the hall and in the kitchen.

MIKE: That's good. There's a balcony in your fat, isn’t there?

BOB: Yes, there is. It's in the kitchen.

MIKE: What about a lift?

BOB: There's a lift, of course. It's a nine-storey block, you see.

Look, Mike, come and see my new flat tonight.

MIKE: Thank you, Bob. Sec you tonight.

  1. My home town. (Любимцева С.Н. p. 79.)

I'd like to tell you about my home town. I live in Tver. It's an old Russian town near Moscow. There are many places of interest in the central part: a theatre, two museums, several beautiful churches, some old buildings. The houses are small and the streets are narrow.

There is a new district in the suburbs of the town with wide and long streets. The houses there are modern and comfortable and the flats arc larger than in the old houses. But there are not many shops and cinemas there.

My parents have got a flat in the new district. There is a living-room, a bedroom, a kitchen and a bathroom in their flat. The living-room is larger than the bedroom. It is a nice and comfortable room, it is light and airy. There are beautiful curtains on the windows. There is a table and four chairs, a sofa and two armchairs there too. There is a colour TV-set in the corner of the room. There is a nice green carpet on the floor. My parents have got a lot of Russian and English books. They are in the bookcase and on the shelves.

The bedroom is smaller than the living-room. There is not much furniture there. There are two beds, a dressing-table and a wardrobe in the bedroom.

The kitchen is not very large. There is a kitchen-table, two chairs, a cupboard and a big fridge in it.

I like to go to my home town when I am on holiday. My parents are always happy to see me.

  1. At the office. (Любимцева С.Н. p. 79-80.)

GLEBOVA: Hello, Mr. Brown. Nice to see you again.

BROWN: Hello, Mrs. Glebova. What a nice office you’ve got!

GLEBOVA: We like it too. It’s modern. There’s a telex, a fax and several computers here. What can I do for you, Mr. Brown?

BROWN: I’d like to see the Director General. Is he in?

GLEBOVA: I’m sorry, he is on business in London.

BROWN: What about our offer?

GLEBOVA: Your offer is very interesting for us.

BROWN: Glad to hear it.

GLEBOVA: Shall we discuss the terms and conditions of our contract?

BROWN: All right.
