The Casablanca Conference was held at the Anfa Hotel in Casablanca, Morocco, from January 14 to 24, 1943, to plan the European strategy of the Allies during World War II. Present were Franklin Roosevelt, Winston Churchill and Charles de Gaulle.

Stalin had also been invited, but declined to attend. De Gaulle had also initially refused to come, but changed his mind when Churchill threatened to recognize Henri Giraud as head of the Free French in his place. Giraud was also present at Casablanca, and there was notable tension between the two men during the talks.

Agreements reached by the conference:

  • The Allies demanded the unconditional surrender of the Axis.

  • They agreed to aid the Soviet Union

  • Agreed on the invasion of Sicily and Italy.

  • Joint leadership of the Free French by De Gaulle and Giraud.

President Roosevelt presented the results the conference to the American people in a radio address on 12 February 1943.

It was followed by Cairo Conference, Teheran Conference, Yalta Conference and Potsdam Conference.

The Tehran Conference was the meeting of Joseph Stalin, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Winston Churchill between November 28 and December 1 1943 that took place in Tehran, Iran. It was the first war conference among the three world powers in which Stalin was present. It succeeded the Cairo Conference and was followed by Yalta Conference and Potsdam Conference. The chief discussion was centered on the opening of a second front in Western Europe. At the same time a separate protocol pledged the three countries to recognize Iran's independence:

Most importantly the conference was organized to plan the final strategy for the war against Nazi Germany and its allies.

Military conclusions of the Tehran Conference

  1. An agreement was made stating that the partisans of Yugoslavia should be supported by supplies and equipment and also by commando operations.

  2. It was agreed that it would be most desirable if Turkey should come into war on the side of the Allies before the end of the year.

  3. If Turkey found herself at war the USSR was obligated to support her.

  4. Took note on November 30 that Operation Overlord would be launched during May 1944, in conjunction with an operation against Southern France.

  5. Russia should enter the war against Japan after the end of the war in Europe.

  6. It was agreed that the military staff of the Three Powers should from then on keep in close touch with each other.

The Yalta Conference, sometimes called the Crimea conference and codenamed the Argonaut Conference, was the wartime meeting from February 4 to 11, 1945 between the heads of government of the United States, the United Kingdom and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

It was a continuation of the series of meetings begun at the Casablanca Conference (January 14 to 24, 1943) and was followed by Potsdam Conference.

The agreements of the Yalta conference were in dispute even before the final meeting at Potsdam. Following the death of Roosevelt he was publicly accused of signing central and eastern Europe into Communist control, as both Churchill and Roosevelt did not accept the requests by the Polish government in exile for international control over the countries such as Poland that were occupied by the Soviets. Moreover, no other governments were allowed to send representatives to Yalta nor were they notified of the decisions made at the meeting.

The official agreements reached at the meeting included:
