5. Conclusion

Currently there are almost two thousand religious organizations in Kazakhstan. One of the most popular ones is Jehovah's Witnesses which has approximately 20,000 of its followers. The number of members of this orgzanition has been rising steadily. For this reason, the objective of the report was to determine whether this religious orgzanition is safe and whether government's actions towards limiting its activities are justified. The following report will be useful to all citizens of Kazakhstan because even though it is assumed that only a small group of people is affected, in fact, every citizen of Kazakhstan might suffer because of the activities of dangerous religious organizations. Throughout this report I have come to realize that Jehovah’s Witnesses is a dangerous religious organization and government’s persecution of Jehovah’s Witnesses is justified in order to protect Kazakhstani citizens.

The introduction has presented the general information about religious minorities in Kazakhstan and various legislations that Kazakhstani authority introduced to restrict activities of religious organizations. The literature review has revealed evidence on the fact that Jehovah's Witnesses is a dangerous religious organization. Moreover, it shed light on government's actions towards limiting activities of Jehovah's Witnesses'. The field research was based on interviews with representatives of Jehovah's Witnesses and Russian Orthodox Church. The field research has proposed two different views on Jehovah’s Witnesses. The analysis has combined information from the field research and literature review. The analysis of the report has revealed that Jehovah's Witnesses is not a safe religious organization and government's limitations of their activities are justified.

Even though some good results were achieved, this issue needs further investigation. First of all because of government’s persecutions of religious groups people in Kazakhstan are unwilling to talk about religious issues. That is why a new approach must be used in order to eliminate this difficulty in gathering information. Secondly, it is possible to see that Kazakhstani authority is trying to take control over Jehovah's Witnesses, however, the question may arise as to why government does not ban their activities like Russia. This question requires furhter research. Additionally, official documents of security agencies and governmental authority could also be analyzed.

To sum up briefly, the importance of the issue of Jehovah’s Witnesses cannot be denied. The following report has shown that Jehovah’s Witnesses is not a safe religious organization and government’s actions towards limiting its activities are justified. Although several strong arguments were used, this issue needs more complex investigation. The Government and National Security Committee in particular, should spend more efforts to create a safe religious environment for further effective and successful development of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
