Describe a technology you use that you couldn't do without. You should talk about: your attitude to technology generally what the item of technology is you have chosen why you couldn’t do without the item you’ve chosen and how your life would be changed if you didn’t have this object. |

Could you describe some of the major roles technology plays in society?

Energy
We definitely need to find more sustainable sources of energy. Not all the experts agree, but some estimates say that we will run out of fossil fuels in the next 50 years. One obvious solution is to use renewable energy sources such as solar energy and wind power. Another benefit of doing this is that wind turbines and solar panels are much cleaner and greener than conventional power stations.
The environment - pollution
One extremely serious issue is water pollution. This is largely caused by factories dumping chemicals and waste products in rivers with result that the water has become contaminated. Another urgent problem is air pollution. In some cities, the smog is so terrible that people have to walk around wearing masks so that they do not breathe in the dangerous fumes.
The environment - the natural world
We need to make sure that we pay attention to the issue of the natural world. In many countries, the habitats of animals are under threat. This is particularly the case in the rainforests. If we take no action now, we may do irreversible harm to the biodiversity of the planet.

Young offenders
It is sadly true that more and more offences are being committed by minors. One problem is that custodial sentences are inappropriate for people under 18 on the grounds that they are very likely to become repeat offenders if they are sent to prison. So rather than send them to a place where they will mix with hardened criminials, it seems sensible to ask them to try and reform them by asking them to serve the community in some way.
The death penalty
It is unquestionably true that there are strong arguments in favour of the death penalty for the most serious categories of crime. The principal argument is that the punishment should fit the crime and if someone has taken someone's life, then they should pay for that with their own. It can also be argued that capital punishment is a very strong deterrent against murder.
The causes of crime
Crime is a highly complex issue and it is no easy matter to explain what causes it. The first step is to distinguish the different categories of crime, as there is a great difference between white-collar crime such as fraud , petty crimes such as shoplifting and antisocial behaviour such as public drunkenness. It seems probable that greed is one possible motive for financial crimes, although poverty and a low level of education may also play a part in other types of offences.
