INTRODUCTION

Paragraph 1____________________

Did you know the boat was one of the first forms of transport? A hundred years ago, the only way to make a journey across the sea was by boat. Nowadays, however, when it is possible to fly from one continent to another, is there any reason to travel by boat?

MAIN BODY

Paragraph 2_______________________

Although the boat is a rather old-fashioned way of travelling, it has certain advantages. To begin with, boats are usually more comfortable than planes or cars. Instead of staying in your seat for the whole journey, you can go for a walk on the deck, eat in a restaurant, or even go shopping. . Furthermore, boats are often cheaper than other forms of travel. For example, a boat ticket usually costs less than a plane ticket. Finally boats are a safer than cars and planes. There are fewer accidents at sea than in the air or on the roads.

Paragraph 3__________________

However, there are some disadvantages to travelling by boat. It usually takes much longer than other forms of travel. As a result, it can be more tiring. In addition boat trips can be very unpleasant when the weather is bad or the sea is rough. It makes journeys uncomfortable or even frightening.

CONCLUSION

Paragraph 4_________________

All things considered, I believe it is a very enjoyable experience. Journeys may take longer,

192

but if you have time to spare, you can take advantage of many facilities which boats have to offer and enjoy a pleasant voyage.

Read the article again and fill in the blanks below. Then, using expressions from the box, talk about the pros and cons of travelling by boat

Concorde, the world‘s fastest plane. French and British inventors invented it together. In 1950s, both countries dreamed of having a supersonic plane. They made a project in 1962 and spent £1.5 billion on developing Concorde. It was tested for over 5,000 hours, which makes it the most tested plane in history. In 1976 British Airways and Air France introduced their first passenger plane. It holds many world records, including the fastest crossing of the Atlantic from New York to London, which was achived in 2 hours 45 seconds!

Flying at twice the speed of sound means that flying time is reduced by half. Business people and film stars use the Concorde flight between London and New York a lot. Twenty planes have been built up present day. But there are no planes to build any more. Each plane is produced at cost of £55 million, which makes them very expensive!
