The Best Job in the World
It's probably the best job in the world. The Australian tourism bureau has finally selected somebody to live on an island and write about life.
273
The new employee will live in a fantastic house on a paradise island in Australia's Great Barrier Reef for six months and get paid $110,000 to do it. The only requirement is to write a weekly blog. That's right, weekly, not even daily.
Within the first 48 hours of the contest, the tourism group received more than 7,500 online applications. In the end, 34,000 people applied. Each made a 60-second video resume. They were told to be creative and they were creative.
Sixteen finalists flew to Australia for the final selection. The job requirements are quite simple: the ability to speak English and swim. Anthony Hayes from Tourism Queensland said the idea has helped to attract millions of dollars into the industry.
The tourism bureau announced the winner: Ben Southall, a 34-year-old British. As caretaker, Southall will live at Blue Pearl, "a beautiful three-bedroom home on Hamilton Island with beautiful views of the Whitsunday Islands, modern facilities and furniture."
Southall once worked as a tour guide in Africa, but most recently has worked as a charity fundraiser. In his application video, he expressed a love for adventure, and presented photographs of himself riding an ostrich, running a marathon, scuba diving and kissing a giraffe.

17.Read the text below and give your title of the job.
A Los Angeles man who worked cleaning buses for the Metropolitan Transport Authority for 76 years, quits on his 100th birthday. Arthur Winston was only absent for one day during his working life - when his wife died in 1988. In 1996, Mr. Winston was honoured by former US President Bill Clinton as "Employee of the Century". In the same year, LA's transport authority renamed its South Bay bus depot the "Arthur Winston division".
Mr. Winston told the BBC the story of his life. He began working as a cotton picker at the age of 10 in Oklahoma. But several harvests were lost to droughts and storms and the family had to move to the west. In 1924 he started working in the railway industry.
In recent years, Mr. Winston led a team of 11 service attendants. Every day they washed many buses. He saw generations of co-workers come and go but he never felt he was missing a retirement. "I just kept on going. I prefer moving, working or doing something to staying at home," he said.
Mr. Winston has no definite plans for retirement but said he wants to keep busy - possibly working with senior citizens. He is also planning to travel to Tennessee to visit his 98-year-old brother.
