Translation № 3

  1. Because of gas density being independent of temperature, gas tubes have an advantage over mercury ones.

  2. It is to be noted that by a closer observation of the spectrum we found it to be crossed by a great number of fine dark lines amounting to many thousand.

  3. The heavier impurities do not have extra states but do affect the density of states in the allowed bands.

  4. At any rate, it is desirable one should account for the abrupt drop in the ambient temperature.

  5. The radar system we shall take advantage of is one that radiates energy in short, intense pulses.

  6. If the phases of two waves were shifted by the same amount, the phase difference at each point would be unaffected and the same pattern of constructive and destructive interference would result. It is symmetries of this kind, when the phase of quantum field can be adjusted at will, that are referred to as gauge symmetries (приборные симметрии ).

  7. Although the disturbance due to the external field appears to be negligible it is doubtful whether this method can be taken advantage of.

  8. Were the observations rigorously correct and the values of the unknown quantities finally determined affected by no error, they would be many times more accurate than we can hope to make them.

  9. Mechanical and optical defects should be avoided in optical glass in order to provide lenses of high accuracy.

  10. We succeeded in proving that in addition to being highly efficient the algorithm for plotting ellipses proves the most reliable ( in the sense of maximum area).

  11. Scientists are aware that the bulk of interplanetary investigations is likely for a considerable period to be conducted using unmanned vehicles.

  12. Unlike flows in which heat conductions is negligible a steady-state condition cannot be attained with the flow under consideration until all motion ceases.

Translation № 4

  1. The advances of modern sciences in the production of a wide range of experimental temperatures are thus seen to be not inconsiderable.

  2. If it were not for the qualitative nature of the concept we should not conceive of this ambiguous contradiction.

  3. It is not improbable that the experiment has failed on account of the data obtained being in contradiction with the hypothesis adopted.

  4. The first six instructions constitute the self-loading procedure. They are followed immediately by the instructions of the program to be loaded.

  5. The conclusion appears but partially to contradict the theory the scientists approved of.

  6. It is to be emphasized that unless the mass of the material is large the neutrons will escape from it without fission being brought about.

  7. Emphasis is to be placed on the fact that with this caution taken, the digital computer may be capable of effecting the control of the process involved.

  8. It is worth emphasizing the fact that such measurements of the period at different temperatures do conform with what one deduces from pictures like Pig.2.

  9. It is this deviation from linearity that is referred to as thresholding.

  10. One of the several new energy-storage (накопление ) concepts being examined in underground pumped-hydroelectric storage (подземное хранение закаченной гидроэлектроэнергии ) which would be lees limited by environmental conditions than conventional pumped-hydroelectric systems.

  11. The results referred to thus far are for a fluid whose depth is sufficient to be considered infinite. For a shallow fluid the behaviour is thought to be somewhat different, particularly for the bubble.

  12. The particles thought to be made up of quarks form a class referred to as hadrons.
