Ход урока

I. Подготовка учащихся к иноязычной речевой деятельности.

Good morning, children! Sit down. I'm very glad to see you. How are you?

Today we are going to learn some fascinating facts about American school life, get acquainted with a new phrasal verb, revise how to talk about some actions going on at a certain moment in the future.

1. Речевая зарядка (работа над песенкой "Why do you cry, Willy?"):

Режим: T-Cl; T-Pt, P2, P3

- Do you like to sing? Fine! So do I. From the very morning I can't help singing a short funny song. Even now it's still in my mind. I can't get it out of my head. May be if I share it with you I 'II finally manage to get rid of it? It seems to me that this idea is worth of trying. Besides, I personally believe that practically everybody likes to sing. What about you?

- Perfectly! Our new song is about a little boy Willy. Who do you think this Willy is?

- In this song we'll have to pronounce the sound [w] very often. Let's pronounce it all together. Fine! Lena, Peter, Mary... Ann, you mispronounce the sound! Say it once again!

- So we are ready to listen to this funny song. Listen to the song and say what does Willy do...

- Have you understood everything? So what does Willy do?

-Now look at this picture. Here is the song. Let's translate it line by line. Pete...Ann...

-Let's read it all together to practice reading. Read the 1st line, Egor... Good. Read it all together.

-Now let's listen to it line by line and try to sing after the tape...

-Let's sing the whole song together. Boys only! Girls, it 's your turn. Show the boys you can sing very well!

II. Работа над текстом (упр. 1. Стр. 168):

Режим: T-CL; T-P1 P2, Р3

- Fine! Children, where, do you think, this boy Willy comes from?... Exactly so! He is from America.

- And how old is he ? Right you are, Ann! He is still very little, do you think he goes to school?

- You guessed it, Peter! May be, that's why he is crying. His mom is always telling him, what an exciting place American school is. By the way, Willy's mom's name is Patricia Shannon. Is this name familiar to you?... What is she?... Why does she speaks of an American school with such enthusiasm that it makes Willy cry?...

- And now we are going to discuss a typical day at school in America and find out what is so special about it, that Willy's mom speaks of her work with such enthusiasm.

- You read her letter addressed to Russian students at home, didn 'tyou? Is everything clear?

1. Проверка понимания:

Упражнение №1:

Say what about the text is in Russian, Paul. Упражнение №2:

Children, this morning I put the sentences from the text into my bag, but they are so naughty! They got mixed up and now I need your help to do the text! Let's arrange them in the logical order, (предложения в беспорядке)

2. Упражнения по тексту:

Упражнение № 1:

Say if Im right or wrong. Which formulas help us to do it? ...

  • Patricia Shannon is a teacher of maths at Simsbury High School in the state of New Jersey.

  • Each morning at 8 a.m. the homeroom teacher asks students, who is wants to eat and then sends the hungry to the cafeteria.

  • Patricia Shannon teaches American history the first two periods of the day. She has more than 300 school days to teach the eleventh graders some facts about the country's history.

  • In the cafeteria the rich students purchase their lunch, the others eat something they manage to steal from them.

  • Most of students and teachers stay at school after 2 p.m. because they don't want to go home.

Упражнение №2:

In the text you have come across some numerals denoting time of the day. Now prove me that you are were very attentive. I'm going to show you a timetable of an eleventh grader, Patricia's student, and you are to describe his day:

8:00 a.m.

8: 10a.m.

12:00 (noon)

1:15 p.m.

2:00 p.m.

Упражнение №3:

Now we know some new facts about a typical day at school in America. Finish my sentences, add as much information as you can:

  • Each day begins at 8a.m....

  • Patricia Shannon teaches American History the Ist two periods of the day...

  • AI noon the students gather in...

  • After lunch...

  • The school day ends with...

Упражнение №4:

So what did we learn about a typical day at school in America? Does it differs from your school day? If you had a chance to choose between a Russian school and an American school, which one would you prefer? Why?

Ш. Автоматизация Future Continuous.

Резким: T-P1, Р2, Р3

- To go to an American school is an exciting experience. Many students from all over the world choose American schools for not only the abundant research possibilities but also for a great variety of extracurricular activities, that make the students let loose and come together with the heart and freedom of little children. Such activities give students the chance to build better, deeper friendships with their peers that they might not normally have the chance to meet!

- Now let's check the April calendar of events and see what you can expect as an American student.

- But before it let's revise which tense will help us to talk about things which are already planned or decided?..

- Good for you, Ann! What else do we use the Future Continuous Tense for?... (to say that we or smb else will be in the middle of doing smth at a certain time in the future).

- What auxiliary verb helps us? (will be) Does the main verb change its form?

- So, we've revised everything we need to imagine what the students in Patricia's school will be doing in April.

- Here are some expressions to help you...(to play golf, to watch a movie, to explore the castle, to celebrate, to chat, to listen to Blues Bands, to take part in a sing contest, to kick off (нач-ть), to search a college, to pass final exams, to visit an exhibition).

- Tanya, tell us, what event do you like best? What will you be doing during it?...
