3. Якщо в українській мові прикметник у функції означення характеризує безпосередньо наступний іменник, в англійській мові він може характеризувати іменник опосередковано, позначаючи якість іншого об'єкту, наприклад, supersonic spending "витрати на будування понадзвукових літаків", де supersonic фактично стосується ознак літака, а не витрат.
Необхідно пам'ятати, що широта семантичних зв'язків між прикметником-означенням та означуваним іменником в англійській мові значно більша, ніж в українській мові, тому, зрозуміло, не всі словосполучення моделі “Adjective + Noun” перекладаються відповідною українською моделлю "прикметник + іменник", наприклад, European peace "мир у Європі", early introduction "введення на початковій стадії" і т.ін.
Завдання Перекладіть речення, звертаючи увагу на переклад прикметників:
1. Most components on the market are rated with respect to load and operating temperature. 2. Next he accepted the postulate, in natural accord with the contemporary caloric theory of heat, that each gas particle is surrounded by a sphere of caloric fluid. 3. We find a very large discrepancy between documentable history of science on the one hand, and, on the other hand, the popular history found in the writings of eminent scientists and some philosophical analysts. 4. Most components on the market are rated with respect to load and operating temperature. 5. But now, on the other side, it could be said that what the disputed case has in common with the undisputed cases of falsity is far more important than the differences between them. 6. A false empirical statement is simply any empirical statement whatever which fails for factual reasons. 7. Second, I want to dispel the illusion that the issue of controversy can be speedily settled, one way or the other, by a brisk little formal argument. 8. What we have, in the enthusiastic defence of one theory or the other, is a symptom of

For this very reason it is not necessary, and at any moment of time it will never be desirable or possible to put all the new ideas into a single volume.
4. Прикметники з суфіксом -able/-ible
1. Прикметники з суфіксами -able/-ible мають пасивне значення і перекладаються за семантичною моделлю "що можна/може + неозначена форма дієслова": movable > "що може пересуватися" > "пересувний"(movable installation "пересувна установка"); explainable > "що можна пояснити і зрозуміти" > "зрозумілий" (explainable mistakes "зрозумілі помилки").
Такі прикметники звичайно перекладаються двома основними способами: 1) прикметниками: separable "роз'ємний", attainable "досяжний";
2) підрядним означувальним реченням: measurable "що можна виміряти", "що вимірюється"; obtainable "що можна отримати", "що отримується".
2. У реченні прикметники на -able/-ible вживаються частіше за все у функціях означення та предикатива (іменної частини присудка). У функції означення вони перекладаються переважно двома вказаними вище способами:
The unavoidable conclusion is that no totally satisfactory analysis of this phenomenon will be possible. Неминучий висновок полягає в тому, що абсолютно задовільний аналіз цього явища провести неможливо.
If this is so, we have an interesting and testable hypothesis. Якщо це так, то ми маємо цікаву гіпотезу, яку можна перевірити.
I have found the book well-produced, very readable and based on a good body of data. На мій погляд, книга гарно видана, вельми читабельна і побудована на достатній кількості даних.

We do not claim to have a demonstrable explanation for this treatment. 8. Brown is in effect fitting his contentious but testable hypothesis into a larger and untestable theoretical framework. 9. Each study leaves a sizable set of data which not only remains unexplained , but also seems totally inexplicable in terms of any palpable criteria. 10. E. Durfcaez has written a serviceable book, but its title promises much more than it actually delivers. 11. And the alternative formulations will employ formalisms of unquestionable necessity. 12. We need here a workable approach. 13. His "indefensible" position cannot be easily shattered. 14. The protagonists in this debate share a common tacit assumption , namely, that "an unfalsifiable" theory can be falsified. 15. In his experiment Dr. Olson seems to have made one unforgivable mistake. 16. He was unable to find an interpretation of Planck's constant in visualizable form. 17. This might be the time when one can still hope to find supportable evidence. 18. We need not specify which features embody norms in terms of a theory, we may never hear, if in fact these are not theoretically specifiable features but only practically available ones. 19. These are the two basic issues Tobin addresses in his highly readable book, which will attract a wide readership as surely as it will separate readers into strong supporters and strong critics.
5. Прикметник та прикметникове словосполучення як правостороннє означення
1. Прикметник у функції правостороннього означення перекладається звичайно прикметником — лівостороннім означенням:

В окремих випадках деякі з таких прикметників, насамперед available, можуть взагалі не перекладатися:

2. Прикметник - правостороннє означення неозначених та заперечувальних займенників перекладається, як правило, прикметником-правостороннім означенням:
The rationale for thinking that evolutionary biology has something interesting to say about ethics lies in the empirical fact that human beings have evolved to become what they are through the influence of natural selection and other factors. Підставою для думки про те,
що еволюційна біологія може сказати щось цікаве про етику, є той факт, що сучасна людина сформувалася під впливом природного відбору та інших факторів.
3. Прикметникове словосполучення — правостороннє означення може перекладатися наступними способами:
1) правостороннім прикметниковим словосполученням:
A final caution should be given to the reader unfamiliar with the approach. Нарешті, ще від одного слід застерегти читача, незнайомого з цим підходом.

2) лівостороннім прикметниковим словосполученням:

This is a curiously Vygotskyan statement, which rounds out nicely the argument which Pellegrini began. Це — твердження надивовиж у дусі Виготського, що гарно підсумовує аргументацію, започатковану Пеллегріні.

7. Іменник як лівостороннє означення
1. Оскільки в українській мові іменник не вживається у функції лівостороннього означення, англійські словосполучення моделі Noun + Noun перекладаються різними способами, за допомогою різних лексико-синтаксичних трансформацій:
1) прикметником-лівостороннім означенням:
This means that our title problem merges into the very large methodological problem. Це означає, що наша головна проблема є частиною великої методологічної проблеми
However, I wish to refer to my recent survey article on this subject rather than repeat it here.
2) правостороннім означенням-іменником у родовому відмінку:
But the benefits of rapid data collection are not limited to the study of unstable complexes.

4) підрядним означувальним реченням:

Хоча в англійській мові іменник-означення має звичайно форму однини, в перекладі іменник-означення не обов’язково повинен бути у формі однини:
This is, in sum, the sort of "least effort" analysis in the best traditions of the theory.
