Concerns about car use and pollution reduction (Beijing example)
•Beijing cuts number of new cars plates.
•Objective: to encourage the use of new-energy vehicles in a move to reduce traffic gridlock, CO2 emissions and air pollution.
•From 2014 to 2017, reduction of new cars availability from 240 000 to 150 000, through a license plate lottery system (established in 2011).
•Quota of maximum 600 000 new cars in the next 4 years (more new-energy vehicles, less gasoline)
