  1. 9. Conclusion

The war in Afghanistan is not merely a local conflict. It touches upon major main global powers and turns into an object of big-time policy. International terrorism and violent extremism is being combated in the region and its success can be measured by the fact that since 9/11 the United States has not seen a major terrorist attack on its territory. However, the situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan became if anything even more unstable. As Obama's last speech indicates, there is no definite date with US troops withdrawal. Many experts are concerned about the their presence but even more are worried about their possible withdrawal because this will further destabilise the area. At the same time the US does not seem particularly eager to leave the country since the war is a very profitable business. In additional, several conspiracy theories have sprung up that suggest that America wants to preserve its presence in region because of China emerging a leading power. But hopefully the current US plan to provide peace, stability and security will succeed and the Afghan people will be able to take care of themselves.
