12.8 Magnetic variation

12.8.1 The magnetic variation shall be shown.

12.9 Bearings, tracks and radials

12.9.l Bearings, tracks and radials shall he magnetic except as provided for in 12.9.2.

12.9.2 Recommendation. - In areas of high latitude where it is determined by the appropriate authority that reference to Magnetic North is impractical another suitable reference i.e. True North or Grid North, should be used.

Questions:

  1. What projection shall be used?

  2. How shall the chart be identified?

  3. What natural and cultural landmarks shall be shown?

TEXT 23

CHAPTER 13. AERODROME CHART - ICAO

Part 1

13.1 Function

13.1.1 This chart shall provide flight crews with information which will facilitate the ground movement of aircraft from the aircraft stand to the runway and from the runway to the aircraft stand; it shall also provide essential operational information at the aerodrome.

13.2 Applicability

13.2.1 The Aerodrome Chart - ICAO shall be made available in the manner prescribed in 1.3.2 for all aerodromes regularly used by international civil aviation.

13.2.2 Recommendation.- The Aerodrome Chart - ICA0 should be made available also, in the manner prescribed 1.3.2, for all other aerodromes available for use by international civil aviation.

Note. - Under certain conditions an Aerodrome Ground Movement Chart -ICAO and an Aircraft Parking/Docking Chart - ICAO may have to be provided (see Chapters 14 and 15); in which case, the elements portrayed on these supplementary charts need not be duplicated on the Aerodrome Chart - ICAO.

13.3 Coverage and scale

13.3.1 The coverage and scale shall he sufficiently large to show clearly all the elements listed in 13.6.1.

13.3.2 A linear scale shall be shown.

13.4 Identification

13.4.1 The chart shall be identified by the name of the city or town, or area, which the aerodrome serves and the name of the aerodrome.

13.5 Magnetic variation

13.5.1 True and Magnetic North arrows and annual change of the magnetic variation shall be shown.

Questions:

  1. What is the function of the chart?

  2. What is the applicability of the chart?

  3. How shall the chart be identified?

CHAPTER 13. AERODROME CHART — ICAO

Part 2

13.6 Aerodrome data

13.6.1. This chart shall show:

a) geographical coordinates of the aerodrome reference point to at least one-tenth of a minute;

b) elevations of the aerodrome, runway thresholds, highest point of touchdown zones and apron (pre-flight altimeter check locations) where applicable;

c) all runways including those under construction with designation number, length, width, bearing strength, displaced thresholds, stopways, clearways, runway directions to the nearest degree magnetic, type of surface, and runway markings;

Note.- Bearing strengths may he shown in tabular form on the face or verso of the chart.

d) all aprons, with aircraft stands, lighting, markings and other visual guidance and control aids, where applicable, including location and type of visual docking guidance systems, and bearing strengths or aircraft type restrictions where the bearing strength is less than that of the associated runways;

Note.- Bearing strengths or aircraft type restrictions may be shown in tabular form on the face or verso of the chart.

e) geographical coordinates to at least one-tenth of a minute for thresholds and aircraft stands;

Note - This requirement may be met by a graticule which will permit the coordinates of the locations selected to be read to the required accuracy.

f) all taxiways with designations, width, lighting, markings, including taxi holding positions and slop bars, other visual guidance and control aids, and bearing strength or aircraft type restrictions where the bearing strength is less than that of the associated runways;

Note.- Bearing strengths or aircraft type restrictions may be shown in tabular form on the face or verso of the chart.

g) where established, standard routes for taxiing aircraft with their designators;

h) the boundaries of the air traffic control service;

i) position of transmissometers;

j) approach and runway lighting;

k) location and type of the visual approach slope indicator systems with their nominal approach slope angle(s) and minimum eye height(s) over the threshold of the on slope signal(s);

l) radio communication facilities.

Question:

What aerodrome data shall the chart show?
