Basic ais Principles

Part 1

Object of the Aeronautical Information Service (ais)

Ensure the flow of information necessary for the safety, regularity and efficiency of international air navigation.

Every contracting State shall:

• provide an AIS, or

• agree with other State(s) for provision of a joint service or

• delegate the provision of the service to an agency

• However, the State shall remain responsible for the published information

• An AIS shall collect, edit and publish information concerning the entire territory of the State as well as areas in which the State is responsible for air traffic services outside its territory

• Aeronautical information shall be published as an Integrated Aeronautical Information Package.

Hours of service:

• 24 hours

• or 2 hours before and after an aircraft is within the are of responsibility

• or when the service is requested by an appropriate ground unit.

For the provision of pre-flight - and in-flight information, the AIS shall, in addition, obtain information from:

• AIS of other States and

• Other sources, e. g. post flight information.

Aeronautical information shall promptly be made available to AIS of other States.

An AIS shall ensure that the necessary information is available in a form suitable to meet the operational requirements of:

• Flight operations personnel

• Flight crews

• Services responsible for pre - flight information

• Air traffic services units responsible for flight information service.

Text 4 Basic ais Principles Part 2

An AIS shall ensure that the necessary information is available in a form suitable to meet the operational requirements of:

  • Flight operations personnel

  • Flight crews

  • Services responsible for pre – flight information

  • Air traffic services units responsible for flight information service.

Contracting States shall take reasonable measures to ensure that the provision of information relating to its territory is adequate, accurate and timely.

This shall include arrangements for the timely provision of the AIS with the required information coming from States services associated with aircraft operations.

Aeronautical information published for and on behalf of a State shall clearly identify that it is published under the authority of the State.

Aeronautical information received from AIS of other States shall be identified as having the authority of the State of origin.

Each State shall designate the office, to which all elements of the Integrated Aeronautical Information Package of other States shall be addressed.

This office shall also be qualified to deal with requests for information originated by other States.

An AIS shall arrange, as necessary, to satisfy operational requirements for the issuance and receipt of NOTAM distributed by telecommunication.

States shall, whenever practicable, establish direct contact between their AIS.
