Тема 4: Лексически трансформации, связанные с различием в употреблении слов в англ. И рус. Языках

Лексические замены играют огромную роль при переводе. Переводчикам постоянно приходится прибегать к ним в процессе своей работы, так как они сталкиваются с различным употреблением в английском и русском языках слов, значение которых как будто одинаково. В таких случаях им приходится выбирать слово, имеющее то же значение, но привычное для данного контекста. Например:

Never drink unboiled water.

Слово unboiled значит некипяченый, однако по-русски естественнее сказать не пейте сырой воды. Следует отметить, что в английском языке нет аналогичного сочетания. Прилагательное raw относится только к пище и материалу, но не к воде.

Очень часто английский и русский языки подходят к одному и тому же явлению как бы с разных сторон. Это также вызывает необходимость в лексических заменах при переводе. Например:

He wrote under several pseudonyms, many of his essays appearing over the name Little Nell. Он писал под разными псевдонимами, многие его очерки появились под псевдонимом «Крошка Нелл».

К лексической замене пришлось прибегнуть, так как по-русски никогда не говорят, что текст стоит под подписью, подпись всегда стоит под текстом.

При лексических заменах переводчики часто, как и в этом случае, прибегают к антонимическому переводу.

Лексические замены нередко имеют место при переводе не только на уровне отдельных слов, но и словосочетаний и даже целых предложений. Часто английское словосочетание-клише переводится русским словосочетанием-клише, передающим ту же мысль. Например:

“Labour challenges the Tories to name a firm figure for increased old age pensions - and doesn’t name one itself,” said Mr. Gollan, adding that the Communists, who advocate a pension of ₤5 a week, are illegally kept off the air.

«Лейбористы требуют, чтобы консерваторы назвали точную цифру повышенной пенсии по старости, а сами ее не уточняют», - заявил Голлан и добавил, что коммунистов, которые предлагают пенсию в 5 фунтов стерлингов неделю, незаконно лишают права выступать по радио.

4. The roads outlook is perilous this week.

5. It’s time we once again had an open Administration in Washington… We should bring dissenters into policy discussions, to freeze them out; we should invite constructive criticism, not only because the critics have a right to be heard, but because they often have something worth hearing.

6. The New Zealand earthquake was followed be tremors lasting an hour. No loss of life was reported.

7. The Commonwealth countries handle a quarter of the world’s trade.

8. The life expectancy of Afro-Americans is five years less than that of whites, and on the advantage the white American studies three years longer than the Afro-American.
