The future continuous tense

Illustrative situation

It will be Saturday tomorrow. We are going on a hike. First we shall be moving through the forest to the lake. We shall be bathing in the lake for a while and then we shall be going to the forest again. Alice will be carrying the topographical map and a compass and Ted will consult the map from time to time. He will be carrying the rucksack and I shall be carrying the tent. We are going to spend a whole day and the night in the forest and then in the early morning on Sunday we shall be climbing up a mountain.

What will you be doing on Saturday?

Will you be playing tennis with your friend?

Exercise 141. a) Read the story and say if Mr Hawk is happy.

This is a page from Mr Hawk's diary written one day before the end of his two weeks' holiday in North Wales.

"Tomorrow I shall no longer be there. The sea will be rolling and telling the tales of distant lands. The sands will be dreaming in the sunshine. The grass will be swaying in the south-west wind. The pebbles will be waiting for the touch of my feet... But I shall not come. I shall no longer be here. I shall be listening to the bit­ter song of the wheels on the rails, to the bitter song of return to my office. And again I shall be working eight hours a day. Day after day the typewriters and dictaphones, the voices and noises will be killing me eight hours a day..."
