Минулий тривалий час (The Past Continuous Tense)

Past Continuous вживається для вираження дії, що тривала в певний момент у минулому. Цей момент звичайно позначається обставинними словами типу: at that moment у той момент, at that time у той час, at 7 o'clock yesterday вчора о 7-й годині або підрядними реченнями, з дієсловом-присудком у Past Indefinite.

Не was doing his lessons at that time. У той час він готував уроки.

They were doing their lessons when I came in. Вони готували уроки, коли я увійшов.

Форми Past Continuous утворюються аналогічно до форм Present Continuous, але допоміжне дієслово to be ставиться у Past Indefinite (was, were).
