In the beginning of the 18th century an eating house near the road (трактир) находился in Orders house. Here all the tsar’s orders объявлялись. It считается the oldest stone house in the town. The Ensemble of St. Triphon Assumption monastery is the old part of the city. The Assumption cathedral was founded by Triphon from Vyatka who was ranked among the saints and later got his name. The ensemble is made up of the Assumption cathedral with 5 domes, Nicolas Over-the-gate church, Annunciation church. Holy Trinity church and blocks of monks cells. The first building of the cathedral was made of wood in 1530. Later in 1689 it was rebuilt of stone. Now it is still being restored.

The regional printing house was opened 200 year ago. It is one of the oldest in our country. Its red brick building was formerly the Saviour-Transfiguration Nunnery for young nuns. It was founded in the beginning of the 17th century at
