Dear students,

The Master's program (Year 1 and Year 2) combines a choice of electives and specializations, enabling you to explore new areas of management science and to specialize in a specific field of studies.

Exchange students can choose courses among electives and specializations.

Dual degree students will have to select core courses they haven’t studied yet among:

Marketing, Finance, Psychology and Management, Management control, Operations Management, Economics, Human Resources Management, European labor law and taxation, Organisation & Management, Strategy (see syllabus on the Intranet / Course choices / Course handbook / Syllabus cours fondamentaux de management)

Core management courses offered in English on Semester 2:

- Management control

- Comparative Business Law

- Economy

- Human Resource Management

- Operations Management

1- Elective courses

There are two types of elective courses:

  • Advanced management electives which enable you to broaden your knowledge of a specific discipline (30 hours)

  • Introductory management electives which explore sector-specific, geopolitical, and cultural issues, as well as issues related to a specific business function (15 hours)

2- Specializations (“Options/Majors”)

A specialization is a block of 4 or 5 courses in the same field.

There are 2 majors offered in English in the Fall semester on the Paris Campus:

OP21 Finance – English Track

and OP01 International Business and Project Development

All other options are taught in French

You can choose to take a specialization taught in French ONLY if you are fluent in French.

The enrolment in a specialization is subject to an application. You have to upload application materials in pdf (a résumé “CV” and a motivation letter on the reasons why you want to do this specialization) on your registration.

Please check the Intranet for syllabus of specializations:

Dual degree students have to take every semester French and English courses as part of their obligations for the degree.

For French classes, you will be automatically registered in a French language class after the French level test on the welcome day (you don’t have to register for it online). French classes will be 4 hours per week, usually on Thursday and Friday afternoons.

Exchange students can also request language core courses only after the online registration process, on available seats.

REMINDER : You may enrol to French classes ONLY upon your arrival at ESCP EUROPE, after taking a level test. You have to attend the welcome day to take the French test.

4- How many credits does each course represent?

Advanced Management Elective courses = 30 contact hours = 5 ECTS

9- About Finance courses

All of the courses starting with the « F » code require the pre-requisite « Corporate Finance ». Though we do not check your pre-requisites, we strongly recommend that you have a serious background in Finance before registering for finance courses at ESCP Europe. Total beginners should not take Finance classes as ESCP EUROPE is specialised in Finance and offers challenging courses in this field.

We do not recommend Finance classes taught in French unless you are fluent in French and meetthe pre-requisite as well.

10- About courses requesting for a pre-requisite

Please note that some classes require now a pre-requisite (“pré-requis”). The system might not allow you to choose these courses and we will have to enrol you manually on available seats, once we have received proof of a pre-requisite course taken in your home institution.

Please make sure you have some background knowledge in the course you wish to study and which requests a pre-requisite.

11- About courses for Master 2 students only (reservé au Master 2)

Please note that you have for the moment all been registered as Master 2 students so you should have access to all courses, even the ones mentioned as “Réservé au Cycle Master 2”. However, you should be studying at the Master level in your home university in order to have a sufficient background for these courses.

12- May I get credit for the Introduction Seminars?

Dual degree students will attend a mandatory school seminar from January 18th to January 19th). You have to select the seminar on the online registration. In January, this mandatory seminar is about Doing business in Europe.

13-How to check your timetable after your courses selection?

Go to http://www.escpeurope.eu, Click on Intranet (on the menu)

Type in your login and password

Select the drop down menu “Course choices” then “Choice results” (on the left menu) Select in "Option and course choice results for the period": 12/13 S1 (on the drop down menu)

The table in green contains your definitive timetable

The table in orange lists the results of your course choices: acceptance or refusal

  1. Organization of your timetable upon arrival

You must inform the administration before the start of the semester, on September 1st 2011 at the latest, if you change or step out of a course.

Please note that if you abandon a course you have been enrolled in, you will get a Fail grade.

  1. Learning expectations

Attendance to each class is compulsory. You should not miss more than 2 classes (per course and per term). More than 2 missing classes will be considered as a “Fail” (with no resit possibility).

If you decide to dismiss from a course without the approval of the administration Office, the grade F will be allocated to you.

Even though students’ timetable may show that a course ends before the official ending of the term, you are required to stay at ESCP EUROPE until the official ending of the term (11 May 2012). Indeed, exams take place during the last 2 weeks of the term for specializations (and core courses of management) and on the last session of the course for electives. Electives should be over 2 weeks before the end of the term.

ESCP EUROPE does not organise distance exams, students are expected to be present on the Paris campus on the exam date. Missing exams with no valid excuse will result in a “Fail” grade.

Master 2 Students – Choice procedure, Term 2, Paris Campus

When do you have to choose?

You have to choose your courses for the 2nd term 2011-2012 on the Intranet, at the end of October (the exact dates will be announced later).

As soon as the courses” choice session will be closed, choices wil no longer be available and if you did not complete the procedure your registration will be based on remaining places.

How to proceed?

Step 1: How to register your choices?

Log in the Intranet, go to the section “Course Choices”.

Step 2: Confirmation of cursus choices (studies, gap semester …)

You will be asked to confirm your cursus choice for the 2nd term 2011-2012:

Studies in Paris

Step 3: Studies in Paris

1. The seminar 4 “Business in Europe” will take place in Paris on January 18 and 19, 2012. The seminar is available in French or in English.

2. Management courses: You may register for a major (“option de spécialisation”).

Each term, you will be allowed to attend 4 to 6 thirty hour- management course (i.e. 120h to 180h altogether).

2A. You do not wish to apply to a major

* You have to register for the Strategy core course in Master Year 2

If you did not pass the all the 6 core courses during Master Year 1, you may register for it / them.

* You register for electives up to 6 courses of your choice (30h or 2x15h each) per semester (180 hours). You will have to register for 2 substitute choices at least.

2B. You wish to apply to a major, but no other major if your 1st choice is rejected

* You choose a major, time slots will be automatically booked for this major (see the table here enclosed).

In order to validate your major choice, please download in PDF a cover letter and a curriculum vitae. Your application goes through a selection process.

* You have to register for the Strategy core course in Master Year 2

If you did not pass the all the 6 core courses during Master Year 1, you may register for it / them.

* You register for electives of your choice up to a total of 180h per semester. You will have to register for 2 substitute choices at least.

Thus your timetable #1 will be set; you will be able to set a timetable #2 according to Example 2a “you do not wish to apply to a major”.

Step 4: Entering your course choices

A new page appears with a course selection field.

Run a research first: click on « search » after having chosen one or several criteria. The list of suggested courses appears in Research Result. Click on the course you are interested in, drag and drop the course:

 in the First Choices basket (down left on the screen)

 in the Substitute Choices basket (down right on the screen).

Once a course is selected, it appears on the timetable with its time slots (colour choices in order to visualise the first choices, language courses or substitute choices)

Time slots for some majors will already be pre-registered in the table below.

Chosen courses will be saved in order you entered them. You can sort them out by priority thanks to the arrows on each basket’s side. This order will be taken into account in the course assignment process.

Once your selection is done, you will confirm it: potential mistakes will be highlighted (courses on the same time slot, courses already validated, courses exceding the number of hours allowed, etc.) or will sum up all your choices.

Your choices will not be validated as long as you have not completed the entire procedure. Once the procedure is over, you will be sent an email confirming your registration.

You may go back on your choices until the deadline of course choices.

Please do not hesistate to go through practical notes or notes regarding your academic obligations as soon as you need help. They are available up right on the screen.

Please note that:

Your final registration to a major depends on the results of the selection process.

If there are too many requests for a course, priority will be given to students in their 4th term, then in 3rd term of Master. Then a random affectation will be carried out, which will take into account the priority order of your choices.

A course will not be opened to students if there are less than 20 registrations.

N.B.:

You will be able to graduate only when all your requirements are validated.

Tuition fees amount to the two years of the Master programme, except for the registration fees which are due each year. Extra tuition fees (550€ per course in 2010-2011) will be billed in case of fail to a course (grade F) starting at the second fail (for the two years of the programme). If you decide to step out of a course without the authorization of the Administration (Scolarité), you will be graded F.

Should you have any question concerning these choices, you may

go to Scolarité cycle Master (office 5115)

or contact by email : eklockenbring@escpeurope.eu
