American Symbols
The Eagle Displaying the eagle is a traditional practice that celebrates the individual's freedom of choice guaranteed to all citizens of the United States of America. The fifty white, five-pointed stars stand for the fifty states that now make up the US nation. As each new state was added to the country, so was a new star and stripe. But as the flag began to grow people realized that there would be many more states joining in the United States and soon the flag would be too big. As for the colours of the flag, red stands for great courage, white stands for purity and goodness, blue stands for justice.

Samuel Wilson was born in Arlington, Massachusetts in 1766. (8)… the War of 1812, Sam Wilson supplied meat to the United States Army in barrels marked U.S. When somebody asked what the U.S. stood for one of Wilson's workers said “Uncle Sam Wilson”. The story became popular when it was printed in a New York City newspaper. After the war Uncle Sam became a symbol of the nation.
The Statue of Liberty The Statue of Liberty was a gift to the USA in honor of the friendship between France and the United States and the liberty of these two countries. It was made by Frederic Auguste Bartoldi after the location for (9)… colossal statue was chosen. They chose Bedloe Island that in 1956 was officially named Liberty Island. Bartholdi created a huge statue of a woman with her right arm holding a torch high above her head. He modeled her face after the strong features of his own mother's face.
