(Adverbial Clauses of Purpose)
для чего? for what purpose? Придаточные предложения цели соединяются с главным предложением союзами so that, so, in order that чтобы, для того чтобы. Сказуемое этих предложений выражается глаголами may (might) и should в сочетании с инфинитивом без to.
The teacher speaks slowly so that his pupils may understand him.
I’m going to the lecture early to get (so as to get, in order to get) a good seat.
(Adverbial Clauses of Condition)
Придаточные предложения условия соединяются с главным предложением союзами if если, unless если только не, разве только, so long as, provided (that), on condition (that) если, при условии что, supposing (that) предположим (что).
If I see him tomorrow, I shall ask him about it.
(The Sequence of Tenses)
В английском языке строго соблюдается правило согласования времен, которое проявляется в придаточных дополнительных предложениях, когда в главном предложении сказуемое выражено глаголом, вводящим косвенную речь, таким как: to say, to ask, to answer, to declare и т.п., а также to think, to remember, to promise, to know, to decide и т.п.
Past Continuous:
I knew that he was a writer.
I noticed that he was writing his report.
Past Perfect:
He answered that John had gone to London some days ago.
Future in the Past:
She said that he would come in a month.
