COMPLEX OBJECT

Инфинитив может также быть частью сложного дополнения.

Complex Object – это комплекс, состоящий из двух частей. Первая часть комплекса – личное местоимение в объектном падеже (me, him, her, it, us, you, them) или существительное (неопределенное местоимение) в общем падеже. Вторая часть комплекса – инфинитив. Сложное дополнение употребляется:

1) после глаголов, выражающих желание:

желание – to want хотеть, to wish желать, would like (‘d like) хотел бы, to prefer предпочитать, to mean намереваться, а также после глаголов to expect ожидать, to like нравиться, to hate ненавидеть:

I want him to read this book. – Я хочу, чтобы он прочeл эту книгу.

He didn’t like the children to make noise. – Ему не нравилось, когда дети шумели.

2) после глаголов, выражающих умственную деятельность – to know знать, to think думать. to believe, to consider считать:

We know them to be very kind people. – Мы знаем, что они очень добрые люди.

3) после глаголов, выражающих разрешение, приказание (просьбу), совет и т. п. – to ask for просить, to order приказывать, to allow разрешать, to permit позволять, to warn предупреждать, to tell велеть и др.: Such stories make me cry.

She warned me not to be late. – Она предупредила, чтобы я не опаздывал.

4) после глаголов, выражающих восприятие – to hear слышать, to see видеть, to watch наблюдать, to notice замечать, to feel чувствовать, to smell чувствовать (о запахе) и др., а также после глаголов to make заставлять и to let позволять. С глаголами этой гуппы инфинитив употребляется без частицы to.

I saw him cross the street. Я видел, как он перешел улицу.

The customs officer made Sally open her case. – Таможенник заставил Салли открыть чемодан.

Примечание:

После глаголов, выражающих восприятие, сложное дополнение употребляется как с инфинитивом, так и с причастием настоящего времени (Participle I). Инфинитив указывает на завершенность действия, причастие – на незавершенность.

I noticed her enter the house. – Я заметил, что она вошла в дом.
