Reading Transport
Transport or transportation is the movement of people and goods from one location to another.
Modes of transport include air, rail, road, water, cable, pipeline, and space. The field can be divided into infrastructure, vehicles, and operations.
Transport infrastructure consists of the fixed installations necessary for transport, and may be roads, railways, airways, waterways, canals and pipelines, and terminals such as airports, railway stations, bus stations, warehouses, trucking terminals, refueling depots and seaports. Terminals may be used both for interchange of passengers and cargo and for maintenance.
Vehicles traveling on these networks may include automobiles, bicycles, buses, trains, trucks, people, helicopters, and aircraft. Operations deal with the way the vehicles are operated, and the procedures set for this purpose including financing, legalities and policies. In the transport industry, operations and ownership of infrastructure can be either public or private, depending on the country and mode.
Passenger transport may be public, where operators provide scheduled services, or private. Transport plays an important part in economic growth and globalization, but most types cause air pollution and use large amounts of land. While it is heavily subsidized by governments, good planning of transport is essential to make traffic flow, and restrain urban sprawl.
The invention of the automobile is undoubtedly one of the humankind’s greatest inventions. Automobile allowed people to move faster from one place to another. This in one’s turn dramatically increased people’s life pace. Distance was no longer of that importance. It was a new means of communication. Unfortunately, the invention of the automobile has some negative aspects. The most obvious aspect of this is road accident. Many people every day suffer from different injuries. Also, with the invention of the automobile humankind came across with a problem of air pollution. We believe that soon we all will be able to exchange our cars for those, which use sun energy instead of fuel.

Dialogue
Checking in at the airport
Clerk: Good Morning.
Mr S: Is this the right desk? My flight is BA123.
Clerk: Yes, that’s right. I need your passport and your ticket, please. Mr S There you go
Clerk: Thank you. Do you have any luggage to check in Mr Smith Mr S Yes, these two suitcases.
Clerk: Could you put them on the conveyor belt, please. Mr S: Sure. I don’t think they are over.
Clerk: No. That’s fine. Would you like a window or an aisle seat? Mr S: A window seat, please.
Clerk: ... Here are your luggage tags and your boarding card. Your seat is 36B. Mr S: Thank you. What is the boarding time?
Clerk: The plane is boarding in 30 minutes. You leave from Gate 15. Have a good flight. Mr S: Thank you. Goodbye.
What do bees do if they want to use public transport?
Wait at a buzz stop!
Why is it that when you transport something by car, it’s called shipment but when you transport something by ship it’s called cargo?
It’s always the same: when you wash your car it rains, but
washing your car to make it rain, never works.
Why is it that when you’re driving and looking for an address, you turn down the volume on the radio?
Discussion
What is good and not so good about different ways of travelling? Which has the most ticks? Is this the best way to travel for everyone or only some people? Is this the best way to travel all the time or only some of the time?

Universiade 2013 Sports |
Only seven sports were presented at the first Universiade in Turin, Italy in 1959. More than half a century later Kazan sets a record by including 27 sports in the programme of the 27th World University Summer Games: track and field athletics, swimming, rhythmic gymnastics, table tennis, basketball, diving, fencing, football, judo, artistic gymnastics, volleyball, tennis and water polo.
Kazan chose a record number of optional sports, 13 of which were approved. The Kazan Universiade will feature the most popular and developed sports in Russia and Tatarstan: boxing, trap and skeet shooting, synchronised swimming, rowing racing, kayak/canoe racing, sambo, belt wrestling, chess, weightlifting, rugby-7, field hockey, badminton, beach volleyball. It’s for the first time that the Universiade will feature six new sport events: badminton, chess, belt wrestling, rugby-7, sambo and beach volleyball

The names of sports that end in -ing are verbs and use the verb to go with them (for example, to go swimming). But you can also use the verb without the -ing (to swim). The rest of the sports are nouns, so you must use the verb to play with them (to play soccer).
Put the sports in the correct boxes:

Ok, that`ll be £120. Here you go.

International and fusion cuisine |
|
International cuisine introduces you to new tastes and teaches you about a foreign country’s history and native plants and animals. Experiencing ethnic dishes is a way to enhance international travel, and introduce a part of a foreign land into your own kitchen. When discovering international cuisines, it is important to understand which ingredients are frequently used in the native country, how they typically cook the dish, and how the meal relates to the country’s culture. Traveling to foreign countries be adventurous with tasting different dishes, and ask locals to make recommendations on the best foods, cooking methods and ingredients.
Fusion cuisine, like fusion music and religion, appeals to multiculturalism, diversity, and novelty; it is also quite easy to market. It is an expression of the contemporary world of images and actively promotes a blending and diversity of cultures. It is
a global cuisine in the sense that its elements are representative of cultures from around the world.
