Abstract

In a method of large scale afforestation two types of firebreak (5, 7) are employed. Firebreaks (5) of a first type are placed in a regular grid pattern and with a ground configuration which in terms of color is adapted to the surroundings, whereas firebreaks (7) of a second type are laid out with an irregular development, which furthermore contrast in color and are provided with a different width. Abstract

A method for afforestation of sands and the like and a structure used for said method. The method and structure permit trees and vegetables to take root and grow easily and certainly in tropical arid land. The method comprises digging the ground to form a vertical hole with a prescribed sectional area and depth, fitting an outer cylindrical body into the hole, filling the outer cylindrical body with soil containing a water-holding material, making a hole with a prescribed sectional area and depth at the center of the soil in the outer cylindrical body, placing in the hole an inner cylindrical body with a prescribed sectional area and length which is filled with soil containing a water-holding material and has a large number of vent holes in its lower section, watering the soil in the outer cylindrical body and the inner cylindrical body so that the water-holding material absorbs sufficient water, sowing a seed or transplanting a nursery tree in the soil in the inner cylindrical body, and growing the plant, with the outer cylindrical body preventing water from escaping from the soil therein, and the soil in the outer cylindrical body isolating the soil in the inner cylindrical body from the ground heat, thereby keeping the soil for vegetation in a wet condition.

Abstract

A method of moving large trees is disclosed. The method includes digging a trench around the tree at a depth and distance from the trunk of the tree to provide a ball large enough to sustain the tree after it is severed from the ground until the tree can be replanted, placing the side walls of a container in the trench to support the sides of the ball, moving a cutter horizontally under the ball from one side to the other, pushing support members under the ball behind the cutter as the cutter moves under the ball so that when the cutter moves out from under the ball, the ball will be completely supported by support members.

Abstract

The invention relates to a method for planting high-yield mandarin duck maize, and hybrid seed selection and preparation method thereof, characterized in: inseminating sterile hybrid seeds and normal hybrid seeds together, the sterile seeds are selected and bred successfully by the following step: (1) transforming sterile genes; (2) backcrossing; (3) backcrossing again; (4) arranging different hybrid seeds in one group; (5) GCA test. Yield of planting mandarin duck maize hybrid seeds produced by this method is increased by 14-22.88% than that of planting normal single cross hybrid maize seeds. Only male sterility line is needed to be cultivated, and neither does restoring line, which simplifies the breeding program of maize, saves time and labour.
