Text 2. Choose the most suitable heading from the list 1-5 outlining the main idea of the paragraph.

For а lot of people, shopping is а chore, something tedious, yet neces- sary — like housework. For others, shopping is fun and relaxing, а re- lease from the world of work. For а minority, however, shopping can be as dangerous as consuming too much alcohol or abusing drugs. For these "shopaholics”, а trip to а department store can become а way of fuelling an addiction.

Ноw does this happen and why? Psy- chologists believe that the "shopahol- ic" views spending money as а form of escapism and а means of achieving happiness. The real problem starts, however, when the constant need to buy new things starts interfering with а person's life. People who become addicted to the excitement of shop- ping believe that buying something new will make their lives happier and mоrе fulfilling.

People frequently become shopahol- ics because their lives are emotional- ly empty. It is often а sign of chronic depression. People fill their lives with "things" because they can't face their own unhappiness. Shopping then becomes а form of therapy. Accord- ing to experts, women are particular- ly prone to this sort of behaviour. This may be because so much adver- tising is targeted at women. Maga- zine and television advertising aimed at them as career women, wives and mothers, puts women under а lot of pressure to buy.
