6.1.1. Интернет будущего: "Чего изволите?"
Современный Интернет — это интерактивный мир. Это полеты в стратосфере с помощью Google Earth; это телевидение, которое делают зрители; это приложения, выполняющиеся на сервере, находящемся за тридевять земель от вашего компьютера.
Нынешний Интернет — это, несомненно, шаг вперед по сравнению с вебом, по которому человек мог только перемещаться, кликая по ссылкам. Это прогресс, однако — далеко не венец творения.
По мнению экспертов, грядет очередная эволюция Сети. Интернет будущего — это интеллектуальная система, которая будет знать, что вам нужно, еще до того, как вы сами определитесь с этим.
С каждым годом стирается грань, разделяющая персональный компьютер и Интернет. Компьютер, не подключенный к Сети — это уже давно анахронизм. Сейчас пользователь даже не всегда может определить, выполняется ли данное приложение на его компьютере или на удаленном сервере. Пример этому — все тот же Google Earth, сервис, имеющий как клиентскую часть, установленную на компьютере, так и серверную, находящуюся на серверах Google.
Следующий симптом приближающейся новой эры — это сайты, подстраивающиеся под конкретного пользователя. Большинство сайтов, ориентированных на широкую Интернет-аудиторию, позволяют пользователям настраивать очень многие параметры: дизайн, навигацию, отображаемый контент. Появляется все больше специализированных сервисов, глубоко проникающих в повседневную жизнь человека.
Сеть будущего станет более изменчивой, более полезной, более интерактивной. IT-индустрия, как пишет USA Today, уже не первый год стремиться приблизить веб к такому результату, однако только в последнее время их усилия начали приносить плоды.
Развитию Интернета также не в малой степени способствует развитие телекоммуникаций. Широкополосный Интернет перестал быть диковиной, теперь он есть во многих домах. Это дало сильный толчок развитию мультимедийных сервисов и сервисов длительного пользования, которые не были востребованы через неустойчивый модемный канал.
Параллельно с прочим нельзя не отметить снижение уровня доминирования Microsoft в IT-индустрии. Если раньше редмондский гигант подминал под себя все, до чего мог дотянуться, то теперь настали иные времена, на рынок вышли иные компании — более гибкие, более подвижные, более интерактивные.

6.1.2. «Всемирная паутина» (www или Web)
В настоящее время «всемирная паутина» является наиболее мощным поисковым инструментом на Интернете, поскольку она без каких-либо видимых "стыков" интегрирует текст, графику, аудио- и видеоинформацию в виде гипертекста. Гипертекст дает возможность пользователю, просматривая один документ, одновременно перепрыгивать на смежные элементы другого документа при помощи соединений гипертекста. Имея соответствующее программное обеспечение (например, Netscape, Internet Explorer, Opera или Lynx), пользователь может просматривать изображения, прослушивать аудиофайлы и смотреть кинофильмы на Всемирной паутине.
В 1990 году главный архитектор "паутины" Тим Бернер-Ли, программист в Европейской лаборатории физики элементарных частиц (СERN) в Женеве (Швейцария), вместе со своим коллегой Робером Кайо разработали проектный документ, разъясняющий гипертекст как способ связи и доступа к информации. В нем объяснялось, как можно интегрировать документы при помощи системы ссылок, называемой "паутина". В документе 1990 года рассматривались понятия, имеющие принципиальное значение для "паутины" в ее сегодняшнем виде: способность ссылок через границы компьютеров или сетей; общий протокол обмена документами (протокол передачи гипертекста или HTTP); общий документальный протокол для поставщиков информации и потребителей (язык разметки гипертекстов или HTML); поддержка поиска по индексу и возможность просмотра этих документов при помощи браузеров текста или графики.
Наиболее значительным событием в развитии Интернет за последние годы явилось расширение Всемирной паутины. В 1992 году "паутина" была ориентирована на текст и была мало известна вне академических кругов. Ею пользовались в основном инженеры, ученые и те, для кого компьютер было хобби. Весной 1993 года группа студентов Университета штата Иллинойс (Национальный центр суперкомпьютерных приложений) разработала программу под названием "Мозаика" (Mosaic). Этот браузер позволял пользователям просматривать как текст, так и графику. Переход к визуальному интерфейсу вызвал взрыв интереса к "паутине". Марка Андрисен, один из разработавших "мозаику" студентов, стал позднее одним из основателей Netscape, одного из двух главных браузеров в "паутине" (другой - это Internet Explorer компании «Майкрософт»).
