A study on journalistic professionalism argued that it is a combination of two factors, secondarysocializationof journalists in the workplace and thefetishizationof journalistic norms and standards.[24]In this way, undesirable traits in new journalists can be weeded out, and remaining journalists are free to cynically criticize journalistic professional norms as long as they keep working and following them. This criticism is adapted fromsociologicalwork on journalism and from philosopherSlavoj Žižek's concept ofideology.[25]
