Building a Synth Using Macros

Playing Your Synth and Making Changes to the Sound

7.6Playing Your Synth and Making Changes to the Sound

Now we can explore our Synth, make some changes the Filter and Oscillator settings and create some Snapshots. Finally we will need to save our work.

7.6.1Changing the Oscillators Waveform, Resetting the Filter and Output Level

You might find that the Synth might sound a bit muffled. I would suggest changing the Oscillator waveform to Saw, by using the Wave switch, and also turning the Filter's Cutoff control clockwise.

Also you could turn the Output Level down to -20.

7.6.2Creating some Snapshots

Try different settings of the Mod Amt knob in the Filter. This will effect how much the FilterEnv modulates the Filter. Also experiment with the A, D, S, and R (Attack Decay Sustain Release) knobs in both of the Envelopes. Changing the relative Pitch settings and Osc Levels of the two Oscillators is also fun! Once you have a setting that you like, save it as a Snap shot. If you remember we did this when we explored the 2-Osc and Junatik Synths.

1.With the Sidepane open, click on the Snapshot tab.

2.Press the Append button at the bottom of the Snapshot list.

3.Type in a name for the Snapshot and press [Enter].

7.6.3Saving Your Work Using Save As

Once you have made some Snapshots, don’t forget to save your work!

This time we will use the operating system shortcut: in Windows®, press [Ctrl]+[Shift] +[S] (in Mac OS® X press [Shift]+[Cmd]+[S]) to execute the Save Ensemble As… command. Because we started off with a new Ensemble you will probably need to navigate back to your User Folder.
