Text 2 John Edgar Hoover
John Edgar Hoover was born in 1885. He was a native of Washington, D.C. He went to school there and then to George Washington University where he studied law. As a student he was brilliant and had a great choice after graduating from the University. But Hoover got a job in the Department of Justice. Very soon they sent him to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. That was in 1924 when J.E. Hoover was forty. For many years he was the head of the FBI and made it the world’s greatest law enforcement organization. He opened a technical and scientific laboratory, identification division, set up a lot of training schools. He was also the initiator of the National Police Academy where he taught as the chief instructor. John E. Hoover had a photographic mind: he called agents by their first names; he remembered all investigations and their results. He said: “The main task of the FBI is the protection of people against crime.” As to his personal life, he had no time to get married. When he was not busy with his service in the FBI, he usually went fishing or hunting. Hoover played tennis very well. He also liked good music.

Topic My University
The Moscow State Open University was established by the State Duma in 1908 to provide education to people of all ways of life. Many prominent statesmen initiated the opportunity of higher education for general public: P.A. Stolypin and A.P. Shanyavsky were among them. Such famous scientists as K.A Timiryazev, V.I. Vernadsky, N.D. Zelinsky, and A.F. Koni lectured at the university. The course of study lasted three years.
Currently there are four departments and fifteen chairs at our university: transport engineering, machine-building engineering, law, and economics. Students can choose full – time or part – time courses. I’m in my first year at university. I study law with 20 other students in my group. My future profession is a lawyer. I’ll deal with legal matters, civil or criminal procedure. I suppose work with new legislations and regulations will also be essential.
The course of study lasts five years. The academic year is divided into two semesters. Exams are taken at the end of each term. In the first and second year we study social sciences such as Politology and Sociology. Academic subjects include History of the Russian State and Law as well as History of Foreign Law. We also study Russian and English. The courses are assessed by written or oral examinations.
Senior courses lead to our professional specialization. They include special training either in Сivil or Сriminal Law.. To deal with various complicated cases we study Constitutional, Bank, Employment, Family Laws. International Law and International Private Law, Advocacy and Criminalistics are also part of our curriculum. Practice at legal offices and courts helps understand the job better.
Opportunities exist to provide high standards of education and teaching. There are some computer centers, offering communications facilities. The university library is a vital resource for study and research.
