Vocabulary notes

to go on business – ездить в командировку

to travel on business – путешествовать по делу

to board a plane / airliner – сесть на самолет

booking office – билетная касса

second-class sleeper – мягкая плацкарта

through train – прямой поезд

express train – скорый поезд

compartment – купе

to depart – уезжать, отбывать

to go abroad – ездить за границу

to land – приземляться

to take off – взлетать

to book a room / to make a reservation – заказать (забронировать номер)

single room – одноместный номер

double room – двухместный номер

suite – номер люкс

to sign in / register / check in – зарегистрироваться

to fill in /out registration form – заполнить бланк регистрации

to sign out / to check out – выписаться, освободить номер

bill - счет за проживание

Paul Ryefield:

I see. One ticket to London, please.

Railway Station Clerk:

Single or return, sir?

Paul Ryefield:

Single, please.

Railway Station Clerk:

64 pounds, please.

Paul Ryefield:

Here you are.

Railway Station Clerk:

Here´s your ticket and change, sir.

2. At passport control

Do you have a return ticket?

Immigration officer:

Good evening. Where have you come from?

Paul Ryefield:

Bucharest, Romania.

Immigration officer:

May I have your passport and form I-94, please?

Paul Ryefield:

Here you are.

Immigration officer:

What´s the nature of your visit? Business or pleasure?

Paul Ryefield:

Pleasure. I´m visiting my relatives.

Immigration officer:

How long are you going to stay in the United States?

Paul Ryefield:

Three weeks.

Immigration officer:

What is your occupation?

Paul Ryefield:

I work as an accountant for a Romanian telecommunications company.

Immigration officer:

Do you have a return ticket?

Paul Ryefield:

Yes, here it is.

Immigration officer:

That´s fine. Thanks. Enjoy your trip.

Paul Ryefield:

Thank you.

3. At a Hotel

Receptionist: Good afternoon. What can I do for you?

Traveller: I’d like to have a single room with a bath for the night.

R: Have you made reservations?

T: Yes, I called from New York. My name is Reyfield.

R: Ah, yes, sir. To be sure. Here you are room 205. Second floor, front.

T: What’s the price?

R: 48 dollars a day, sir. How long will you stay here?

T: I expect I’ll check out at about noon the day after tomorrow. Shall I pay in advance?

R: Yes, please. You can pay at the cashier’s desk to your left. Will you please check-in?
