Career of an Economist.

One of the most interesting and at the same time important careers is the career of an economist. Economists are concerned with the production, distribution and consumption of goods and services and are interested in helping society to get as much satisfaction as possible from its limited resources. They study the ways which individuals and society choose to use limited resources, such as limited resources, labour, factories and machines in an effort to satisfy unlimited wants of individuals and the society.

Economists collect, process and analyze data to determine the costs and benefits in using these resources in various ways.

Economists are employed in a number of different job settings. Many of them are employed by government establishments including a wide range of different agencies, scientific research institutes. They collect and analyze information about economic conditions in the nation and about changes in government economic policies.

Various firms, factories, manufacturing plants are also a great source of employment for economists. Many economists work at savings banks, insurance companies, investment companies, management consulting firms. There are also economists who teach and do research at colleges and universities.

Economists must have a thorough understanding of economic theory, mathematical methods of economic analysis and basic statistic procedures. At the same time training in computer science and foreign languages is becoming increasingly important in the activity of an economist.
