MY MILITARY SERVICE AT THE ACADEMY 21

The Civil Defence Academy trains specialists in the field of emergency situations. The programme includes both general and special subjects. The main special subjects are engineer protection of population and territory, search and rescue operations, emergency management, rescue equipment, etc. Manuals and regulations, marching drills, range practice are of great importance too. Much attention is also paid to physical training and foreign languages. 22

The necessary professional practical habits are acquired by cadets at the Academy’s training center, which is equipped with modern facilities. Besides, the cadets of the Academy have their practice in different units and subunits of the Civil Defence Forces. They learn to command units, organize and control emergency operations as well as perform different rescue missions. 22

The academic programme covers a period of 4 or 5 years. As for me I’ll study and serve at the Academy for 5 years. Upon successful graduation from the Academy I’ll be promoted to the rank of lieutenant and sent for my further military service. 22
