Мета: надати студентам іншомовну інформацію з теми, практикувати навички вживання лексики минулого заняття, ознайомити їх з вживанням інфінітиву та герундія, розвивати логічне мислення, розширяти кругозір студентів покарання в інших країнах, виховувати почуття необхідності вивчення іноземної мови для майбутньої професії.

Isle of ˈMan, the ( also Man ) written abbreviation , IOM (Capital: Douglas. Pop.: 75 000) - an island in the Irish Sea. It is under British control, but has its own parliament, the Tynwald (the Tynwald is the Parliament of the Isle of Man, consisting of the crown, lieutenant governor, House of Keys (House of Keys "Хаус оф кіз", палата виборних, нижня палата від keys - виборний), and legislative council Full name: Tynwald Court), and its own laws. Tynwald legislates (видавати закони) in domestic matters, the laws it adopts requiring ratification by the Queen in Council; the Home Secretary is responsible for advising the Privacy Council whether or not to recommend that the Royal Assent (згода, санкція) be given.

In strict law, the United Kingdom Parliament has full power to pass laws applicable (що застосовуються) to the Isle of Man but, by constitutional convention, does not in the ordinary course legislate on the Island’s domestic affairs, such as penal policy, without its consent.

Many rich British people live there or keep their money there because taxes are lower than in the UK. A well-known series of motorcycle races called the TT (Tourist Trophy) races is held in the Isle of Man every year. The adjective for describing people or things from the Isle of Man is Manx.

The Isle of Man is not a part of the United Kingdom but dependency of the Crown with its own government, legislature and courts and its own administrative, fiscal and legal system. The Isle of Man’s parliament, the Court of Tynwald, is one of the oldest in Europe. It consists of Lieutenant-Governor appointed by and representing the Crown, an Upper House (the Legislative Council) and a Lower House (the House of Keys).

Judicial corporal punishment of adults and juveniles was abolished in England, Wales and Scotland in 1948 and in Northern Ireland in 1968. The punishment remained in existence in the Isle of Man. While under various provisions (умови, постанови) judicial corporal punishment could be imposed on males under the age of 21 for a number of offences, since 1969 its application has apparently (напевне) been restricted (обмежений) in practice to offences of violence.
