won’t be as nervous. Here’s what you say: “Hey, Bob, I’d like you to listen to a two-minute recorded message about an opportunity I’m excited about.” Then give them your company’s recorded sizzle-call phone number and say, “Call me back and let me know what you think.” If they ask you what it’s all about, just say something like, “That takes all the fun out of it. Just take a couple of minutes, make the call, and let me know what you think.” This approach works for people you know, not cold calls.

TAPES AND CDS

Use professional recruiting tapes or CDs that make your business simple and duplicable for virtually anyone who can hand out or mail one to someone. The great thing about tapes and CDs is that people can listen to them while driving in their cars to or from work. This is when they are most susceptible to the idea of eventually breaking away from their jobs and maybe working from home full-time someday.

THREE-FOOT RULE

Wherever you go, make sure you carry business cards and a sample if your company supplies those. Give a card and sample to everybody who comes within three feet of you. Make sure to have the company’s (24/7) two-minute recorded message and web site information with it. Try to get people’s contact information for follow-up; then always follow up with a phone call and ask them what they think. They’ll tell you if they are interested or if they need any questions answered.

HOME PARTIES

If your company does not have a home party plan, you may want to start one yourself. Invite a bunch of people over for a product and business party. Serve your products (if they are edible, of course) and coffee or tea. You can make up your own presentation or play the company DVD. These meetings can build into weekly hotel meetings. To invite prospects, send out invitation letters or postcards and then call them to follow up. This can be a super way to grow your business, one that others can easily duplicate since people love parties. Just make sure they know it’s a home business opportunity party so there will be no unpleasant surprises.

LOCAL HOTEL GATHERINGS

These can be a lot of fun, create a bond among local people, and serve as a great way to build your business fast. All local distributors need to do is to invite prospects to the meeting and let the presenter do the work for them. If you are organizing it, you may have to be the first presenter, or find someone who can do an adequate job. You may also want to offer training meetings on a monthly basis. Meetings are in vogue again and working very well for many companies. The personal touch of local gatherings is something that long-dis- tance sponsoring will never be able to accomplish.

CHAT ROOMS

Chat rooms can supply a free and endless supply of targeted prospects day or night. Go to the bigger ones like Yahoo!, MSN, and AOL and head to the health or small business rooms. You’ll need to abide by their rules. Usually you can send an instant message to any of the people in the room privately. This is the best way to work the rooms, one person at a time. Stay focused and start by breaking the ice. Ask, “How are you doing today?” After they respond, you might say something like, “Are you open to checking out a cool and lucrative part-time home business?” Then gently and quickly lead them to your company web site and brief company overview recorded phone message. Give them your contact information if they are interested and try to get their contact information for follow-up later. You could prospect all day and night, offering your income opportunity to hundreds of new people weekly with this method. With consistent daily action, you are sure to find some interested people, many of whom will become lifelong friends and business partners. The more you work this method, the better you will get at creating value for people to explore the possibility of working with you.

BUSINESS CARDS FROM

BULLETIN BOARDS

Go to the stores where you see all those business cards that business owners, salespeople, and network marketers post. Put yours there, too, but better than that, write down in a notebook the names and contact information of the entrepreneurs who put their cards there. These are the kind of people you want in your business. Go home and start contacting them.

GET TO KNOW SOME TOP DOGS

In most cases, these successful leaders are not going to join you, especially at first. They are probably doing well in another program and are not looking to make a move to another company. If you are able to get through to them, simply start a friendship. I’ve called many of the writers with featured articles and leaders who ran ads in network marketing publications. I just introduce myself and commend them for their leadership or inspiration. Over the years, I have made many good friends this way, and some of those top dogs have in fact joined me later in business. Remember, this business is all about building friendships, and these people, like all of us, started out at the bottom, too.

THE VOICE MAIL HIT

All professionals have voice mail, right? Go to the yellow pages and find the people you want to target—like chiropractors, real estate agents, message therapists, and others. Next, start calling after hours so you get their voice mails. Leave a powerful, brief message asking them to call your 800 number voice mail to hear a brief recorded overview and then to contact you for more details. You can even purchase a national toll-free phone book of businesses. Work this method diligently, and these professionals will be calling you to join your business after your company 24/7 recorded message or web site does the business presentation for you.

VIRAL E-MAIL

Do you ever get a funny joke e-mailed to you and then pass it on to your friends to enjoy, too? Start to send regular e-mails to your list of contacts. Do not spam. Build your list by meeting people and making friends. Once you’ve established a bit of a relationship, send a joke, funny photo, inspirational message, or other different or interesting message. Make sure your company web site information or your signature file is at the top or bottom of every e- mail. Along with the interesting message, your recipients get to see a brief ad for your business. If people like the e-mail, they will pass it on to their friends. Imagine one funny photo being forwarded to thousands or even millions of people across the world, each seeing your marketing information. And it’s free!

TALKING OR VIDEO E-MAIL

Send e-mail with your own or a professionally voiced audio message promoting your business. Make sure to tell the people (in text) to have their speakers turned up. Then hit them hard with a short, powerful audio advertisement. Text with audio has much more punch than text alone. You can find audio services by doing a Google search.

Also, there are a few services that offer an inexpensive way for you to record and send quality video clips to your prospects. It’s a great way to develop new distributors. This will work better if you are among the few now marketing in this way. Later on, it won’t have the same punch as others discover this technique.

BATHROOM ADS

These ads are usually placed in nicer restaurants to reach a captive audience all day and night, day after day. Make sure your ad is powerful and can be read in 30 seconds. THE LEAVE BEHIND

Leave a business card or mini-flyer on the shelf by the business and network marketing books and magazines in bookstores, doctor’s offices, and libraries. Slip a few cards inside the publications, too. Remember to always carry your business cards wherever you go and leave them anywhere you feel people will see them. Your business cards will make you money.

FLEA MARKETS

This idea could make you a fortune and build a large organization fast. You can either set up a booth or attend flea markets as a customer and talk to the people running the booths. There are hundreds of prospects at flea markets, and many of these people are entrepreneurs, perfect for your business. Introduce them to your business and products or services. Explain the power of building a residual income (see Barry Friedman’s chapter on this topic) so eventually they do not have to be spending all their weekends at
