3. Contents of discipline Theme 1: Statistics as a science. Subject and method of statistics.

The subject of statistics. The main categories of statistics. Statistical population, population units as a carriers of properties of the phenomenon. Statistical characteristics, the forms of their presentation, variation, measurement scale. Patterns of mass processes, types, mechanism of formation. Stages of statistical research. Features of statistical methodology. Statistical rows as an information database of analysis of patterns. The organization of statistics in Ukraine.

Theme 2: Statistical observation

Statistical data and requirements to it. The plan of statistical observation. Program, methodological and organizational aspects of the plan. Types of observations depending on the degree of coverage of primary population and on the mean time of recording the facts. Organizational forms of statistical observation. Statistical registers. Methods of observation. Statistical monitoring. Statistics of sociological observation. Errors of observation, data controll.

Theme 3: Combining and grouping of statistical data

The essence of statistical grouping as a method of organizing of statistical data, its task. Classification and grouping. Statistical classificators. Key economic classificators. Statistical codes. The task and the types of statistical groupings. Structural, typological and analytical grouping. The principles of the interval of groups. Simple and combinational grouping.

Theme 4: Presentation of statistical data: tables, graphs, maps

Statistical tables, types and rules of their construction. The role of graphs in the analysis of socio-economic phenomena. Key elements of statistical graphs. Types of statistical graphs.

Theme 5: Generalizing statistical indicators

Essence and analytical role of statistical indicators. Types of statistical indicators depending on the degree and time of registration and on the purpose of calculation. Absolute statistical values, units of their measurement. Relative values​, their forms of expression and types depending on analytic functions. Mean values​​, their types and terms of scientific applications. Arithmetic mean, its basic features. Harmonic mean. The terms of usage of chronological and geometric mean.

Theme 6: Analysis of rows of distribution

Rows of distribution as an information base of measuring of patterns of distribution. Types of rows of distribution and their frequency analysis. Features of distribution center: mean, mode, median, their relations. Quantile distribution: quartile, decile, quintile. Their role in the analysis of patterns of distribution.

Measuring of variations of characteristics. Absolute measures of variation: the range of variation, the mean linear and standard deviations. Coefficients of variation, their role in the statistical analysis. Features of forms of distribution: symmetry and kurtosis.

Theme 7: Analysis of concentration, differentiation and similarity of distributions

Analysis of unequality of distribution. The coefficients of localization and concentration. Usage of the coefficients of unequality in the analysis of uneveness in the distribution of living standards of populetion (decile coefficient of differentiation of the population by the level of incomes, coefficients of assets, the Gini coefficient).

Evaluation of similarity of structures of different populations. Ensuring comparability of structures of one object in the dynamics (secondary group) and intensity of estimation of structural shifts.

Essence and objective analysis of variance. Types of variances. Rule of decomposition of dispersions.

Theme 8: Analysis of the intensity of dynamics

Essence and features of dynamic rows. Methodological principles of analysis of dynemic rows. Types of dynamic rows. Average level of the row. Absolute and relative characteristics of intensity of dynamics: absolute growth, growth, growth rate, the absolute value of 1% of growth; their relations. Mean absolute growth and the mean growth rate. The avaluation of acceleration (deceleration) of development. Comparative analysis of dinamic rows: the coefficients of elasticity and advance, the terms of their use.

Analysis of trends and forecasting. Components of dynamic rows: trend, seasonal and random fluctuations. The essence of development trend, methods of its detection and analysis. Seasonal fluctuations and methods of their measurement.
