Should and Ought to. Advice and criticism.

We often see people doing things we consider wrong, and we want to advise them, or talk critically about them to others. For example:

You should work harder.

He shouldn’t drive so fast.

You ought to be more polite.

They ought not to sell these.

There is no difference in meaning, although should is perhaps a little more common, and ought to a little more emphatic.

5. Look at the pictures. Beside each one, write something you would say to the person, and something about the person. Use either should/shouldn’t or ought/ought not to.
