IV. Read the sentences, substitute the underlined words by the synonymous ones.

  1. Business letters serve to order a product, to provide or request information, to complain about something etc.

  2. The address of the person or company receiving the letter is usually typed on the left-hand side.

  3. The greeting follows with the words Dear Dr Thomson if the person receiving the letter has a special title.

  4. The subject line helps to emphasize the purpose of a letter.

  5. The complimentary close is a polite way of finishing a letter.

  6. If there are materials along with the letter, the abbreviation Encl. is typed in the bottom left-hand corner.
