Употребление определенного артикля (the use of definite article)

1. С существительными в един­ ственном и множественном числе, когда говорящему ясно, о каком предмете идет речь.

2. С существительными, кото­ рое упоминается в контексте второй раз.

3. Когда перед существитель­ ным стоит:

а) порядковое числительное;

б) прилагательное в превосход­ ной степени;

в) одно из прилагательных: following, last, next, same, very, only, ho: next door, last week, last year.

4. Когда существительное имеет при себе уточняющее или огра­ ничивающее определение.

5. С существительными, обо­ значающими предметы единст­ венные в своем роде: the Sun, the Moon, the Earth, the sky, the world, the air, а также в словосо­ четаниях:

In the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening.

6. С исчисляемыми существи­ тельными, обозначая весь класс однородных предметов, а не выделяя один предмет из рода ему подобных.

2. С существительными во мно­ жественном числе, которые яв­ ляются частью именного сказуе­ мого.

3. С неисчисляемыми существи­ тельными, если они не имеют ограничительных или уточняю­ щих определителей.

4. С названиями дней недели, месяцев и времен года.
