Издательское дело – это давно утвердившаяся сфера деятельности. Одни люди считают, что оно возникло еще несколько тысяч лет назад; другие – пятьсот лет назад. Кто-то же уверен, что оно появилось на свет в конце девятнадцатого века. Все зависит от того, что считать точкой отсчета: первые записи, сделанные на папирусе или выбитые на каменных табличках, появление полнообъемных печатных изданий Иоганна Гутенберга или изобретение в 1884 году наборной строкоотливной машины.
Производственные технологии издательского дела меняются. Но вдохновение, которое позволяет заполнить страницы изданий, остается неизменным.
В издательском деле все виды деятельности делятся на две большие группы: дела производственные и дела творческие. Поэты, прозаики, ученые и журналисты давно используют печатные страницы для того, чтобы донести до широкого читателя свои соображения.
