7. Problem Solving

In the Czech Republic, to improve the country’s economy, the national tourist agency wants to promote Prague as the premier tourist destination in Eastern Europe for foreign tourists. The Czech Republic had many features to recommend it. Much of the country was spared extensive bombing during World War II, and it has ancient castles, buildings, and medieval churches that are among the finest in Europe. Prague, the capital, is a particularly beautiful city with Old-World charm. Food and lodging are relatively inexpensive, in comparison to costs in other European capitals.

Your public relations firm is retained by the Czech Tourist Agency to attract American tourists.

What are your recommendations regarding

1)Specific audiences to be reached,

2)Key themes that should be emphasized,

3)The publicity and promotional techniques that would be used? Brainstorm the ideas that can be used to devise a PR campaign.

16. Урок 16 (Unit 16) Public Relations for Nonprofit organizations.

1.Starting up

1.What is a nonprofit organization?

2.How public relations services for nonprofit organization are different from those for businesses?

3.What should be considered while developing a PR campaign for a nonprofit organization?

Notes

A non-profit organization (abbreviated "NPO", or "non-profit" or "not-for-profit") is an organization whose primary objective is to support an issue or matter of private interest or public concern for non-commercial purposes, without concern for monetary profit. NPOs are active in a wide range of areas, including the environment, the arts, social issues, charities, early childhood education, health care, politics, religion, research, sports or other endeavors. In many countries, nonprofits may apply for tax exempt status, so that the organization itself may be exempt from income tax and other taxes, and (in some cases) so that financial donors may claim back any income tax paid on donations, or deduct from their own tax liability the amount of the donation.

Notes

An advance story calls the public’s attention to a coming news event which would

possibly be missed if it were covered as a spot news story. It answers the following

questions:

What is going to happen? When is it going to happen? Advance stories are used

to promote

practically every

scheduled major special event. They provide the advance buildup and

support required

to attract attention, encourage participation and assure success. Few special

events could succeed without the benefit of advance announcements by local media.
