Selection is the process by which the job applicants are screened and interviewed and a hiring decision made.
At first, companies advertise in newspapers or on the Internet. Then they look at the backgrounds of applicants – their experience of different jobs and their educational qualifications.
The companies invite the most interesting candidates to a group discussion. Also they can give some psychometric tests to assess intelligence and personality of applicants.
After this, they select three or more candidates and shortlist them. References may be checked by writing to their referees – previous employers, teachers, and so on that candidates have named in their applications.
