Who are they? How do they look like? What do we know about their characters? What do they do (profession/study)? Write your answers and submit this assignment on Monday.

  • Diary: think about one interesting event that happened to you on Friday, Saturday or Sunday and write about this event in detail (what happened, when, where, why, with whom and how this event influenced you and others).

  • Use the Internet to find and complete exercises on modal verbs, the Past Simple tense and passive voice. Submit them to Ainur on Monday (put them into your portfolio).

For Tuesday, September 4:

  • Please listen to Rappaccini's Daughter, Part 2 written by N. Hawthorne. After listening, think about and write down the main idea of the story. What does the author want to tell the reader with this story? Please support your answer with the facts from the story as well as your own opinion.

  • Intensive reading: read pages 28 through 35 in Ch. 4 of The Hunchback of Notre-Dame. Underline, translate and write transcriptions of the new words right on the copy of the book. Please answer the questions:

  • Why does Esmeralda say that she killed Phoebus?

  • Why does everyone believe that Esmeralda is a murderer?

  • Why does Frollo offer to save Esmeralda from death by hanging?

  • Why does Esmeralda refuse to help?

  • No diary for Tuesday! But:

  • write a descriptive paragraph about your special treasure (for example, an object, an animal). Please review the text about a mother’s picture in the handout that I gave to you this week. Follow this text’s structure to write your own story. The first sentence should introduce this special treasure. Then please describe it, tell me why it is so important for you and what kind of memories you have associated with your treasure. Your last sentence should sum up the entire paragraph and express the same idea as in the first sentence. Bring this object to class! Or at least its photo (a hard or digital copy)!

  • Submit your exercises to “Requests, invitations and suggestions”

For Wednesday, September 5:

  • Please prepare for a vocabulary quiz! Review the words from Ch. 1-3 of The Hunchback of Notre-Dame. The quiz will be similar to the one we had last week.
