Home tasks:
Prepare to discuss the main idea of “The kite maker”
Prepare to introduce your favorite writer, poet or artist during the first class (if you haven’t done it on Tuesday)
Bring cameras – let’s take photos with one another! We need them for an assignment as well as for our memories
Meet with your co-presenter and discuss a good topic for your presentation. This topic should be interesting for you and for your classmates; focus on something you like to do or would like to do (and why you recommend this activity to your classmates), you have seen or would like to see (some interesting place). Every student should find, print, read and bring to class an article related to the topic of your small group presentation. While reading the article, please circle unfamiliar words and translate them right in the article. Also please highlight the information you will probably use in your group presentation.
Together with your co-presenter, please write a descriptive paragraph about the topic for your small group presentation.
What would you like to tell us about?
Why are you interested in this topic?
Why do you think this topic will be interesting for your classmates?
What will they learn from your presentation?
It is better if you talk about something you did/saw in the past or want to do/see and know well. Discuss the topic and answer my questions in your presentation team. Indicate all presenters’ names, but submit only one piece of writing. Reminder: the first and last sentences in your paragraph should present the topic of your presentation.
No diary for Thursday because you are writing your descriptive paragraph.
For Friday, September 14:
Guys, I invite you to go to the mountains on Saturday (1-6pm)!!! Alice, Julie, Jon and the English Club people will go with us!
Finish reading “The Picture of Dorian Gray”. Please think about the whole book and write down your answers to the following questions:
What did O.Wilde want to tell us with his story?
Why did O.Wilde call his novel “The Picture of Dorian Gray” instead of just “Dorian Gray”?
What did you learn from the novel about different kinds of people, relationships, a person’s soul, morale, philosophical meaning, etc?
Rewrite your paragraph about your favorite writer/poet/artist, etc – change the content, grammar and vocabulary. Make sure you (1) introduce the person’s profession and country of origin, (2) describe his/her appearance and character (if you know his/her character), (3) tell me why you like this person, when and how you started to like him/her, (4) tell me about your favorite book/poem/painting/song written by this person and why you like it so much, and (5) conclude your paragraph by paraphrasing the first sentence and recommending the reader/me to read/see/listen to it. Please submit the original paragraph with my comments and the updated version.
The Monday presenters should see me during the break (between 10-11am) to tell me about your presentations and to show their descriptive paragraphs (see the task below).
