Seminar 2 Linguistic Dichotomies and their role in the revealing of language nature

Objectives:

  • to contribute to forming students’ scientific outlook by fostering them to take part in the discussion of scientific issues;

  • to enable trainers to use in the proper way the linguistic terms within the scale required by the curriculum.

Questions for discussion:

1. Dichotomy - "plane of content - plane of expression". The problem of their interrelation and correspondence.

1.1.Grammatical polysemy, homonymy and synonymy.

2. Dichotomy - "language - speech" as one of the main principles of the language theory. Language units and their speech counterparts.

3. Dichotomy - "synchrony - diachrony " in grammatical studies.
