Exercise 1. Read the following sentences. Pay attention to the use of the Future Simple Passive. Translate the sentences into Russian.

1. The letters will be sent tomorrow. 2. You will be given a good present for your birthday. 3. The job will be advertised in the morning paper tomorrow. 4. Will coffee be served in the dining-room or in the sitting-room? 5. He hopes he will be given a visa soon. 6. The work won’t be finished soon. 7. The plan will be discussed at tomorrow’s meeting. 8. Exercise 2. Answer the following questions. Use the given prompts.

Exercise 4. Ask if some other people will do the same or some other things will take place in each case.

Exercise 8. Put the following sentences into the Passive Voice.

Exercise 9. Read the following text and translate it into Russian. Put questions to the sentences in the passive voice. Retell the text.

Programmes for students studying English will be broadcast every day. They will be planned for the whole term. They will be designed for those who have recently begun to study English. The programmes will be mainly based on situations from students’ life. Some of the programmes will be given in the form of dialogues. They say that suggestions for further programmes will be welcomed

Exercise 10. Put the verbs in brackets into the Future Simple, active or passive.

Exercise 11. Put the verbs in brackets into the Future Simple, active or passive.

Janet: I’ve booked you on the 8.30 flight, so you (arrive) at 11.00 local time. You (meet) at the airport by one of their drivers, and you (take) straight to their Head Office.

Helen: Fine. Have you organised a hotel?

Janet: Yes, you (be) at the Hotel Inn.

Helen: OK. Do they know how long the meeting (last)?

Janet: They expect that you (be able) to finish at about 5.30. I have told the hotel that you (not arrive) before 6.30. But that’s fine and they have said that the room (keep) for you, and that it (not to give) to anyone else.

Exercise 12. Translate into English using the Future Simple Passive.

GET + PAST PARTICIPLE

Exercise 1. Read these sentences paying attention to the use of get instead of be in the passive. Translate the sentences into Russian.

1. There was a fight at the party but nobody got hurt. 2. I don’t often get invited to parties. 3. I’m surprised Ann didn’t get offered the job. 4. Our dog got run over by a car. 5. Lots of postmen get bitten by dogs. 6. How did the painting get damaged? 7. I am always getting chosen for the unpleasant jobs. 8. Her car got stolen last night. 9. It suddenly started to rain and we all got soaked. 10. It was an accident! We were playing on the couch, and, somehow the vase got broken. 11. He got injured in a car crash. 12. He got fined for breaking the traffic rules. 13. The road got blocked during the snowstorm. 14. They got married last year. 15. Don’t make such a noise. You’ll get turned out. 16. My parents’ fence got blown down in the storm.

Exercise 2. Write out the sentences in which the combination to get + past participle has a passive meaning.

1. Michael got fined for speeding. 2. They got injured in a road accident. 3. Monica never gets discouraged. 4. When nobody phoned her, she got worried. 5. The dog didn’t get fed until noon. 6. Exercise 3. Where possible, rewrite the sentences using get-passive.

Exercise 4. Complete the sentences using get/got + the verb in the correct form.

Exercise 5. Billy Palmer was a burglar once. He is speaking about a night some years ago when everything went wrong for him.

Complete Palmer’s story using the past simple passive with get.

It was terrible. First of all, my jeans got ripped (rip) as I was climbing over the garden wall. Then I (stick) climbing through the bathroom window. Then I (bit) by a dog inside the house. The dog made so much noise that everyone in the house woke up and I (hit) over the head with an umbrella. Then, when I finally got out of the house, there was a police car waiting there. But, to my surprise, I (not/catch) that night. Although it wouldn’t really have mattered if I had. Two weeks later, I (arrest) burgling another house and I (sentence) to three years in prison.’
