  1. a) We use the Passive Voice in three main ways:

  • to describe a process

  • when the action is more important than who does it:

The computer was repaired in 3 hours.

  • when we do not know, or do not want to say, who does the action:

The letter was received a week ago.

b) The agent (by …) is only used when it includes important information:

America was discovered by Columbus in 1492.

c) When you want to mention what the agent used in order to carry out an action, you use “with”.
