Investigations
1. The doctor is going to take some fluid of the back to find out what’s giving the patient headaches.
2. The doctor says: “Lie on your left side. Right. Now can you bend both your knees up as far as they’ll go? That’s great. Put your head right down to meet your knees. Cure up. – Согнитесь так, чтобы подбородком коснуться коленей. I’m going to wipe (протереть) your back with some antiseptic. You’ll feel it a bit cold. Now I’m going to give a local anesthetic so it won’t be sore (будет не больно) You’ll feel just a slight jab (легкое укалывание). We’ll wait for a few minutes for that to take effect (пока подействует). Right now, lie still, that’s very important (лежите спокойно).
3. ECG: I want you to strip down to the waist and also take off your shoes and socks. This is a completely painless procedure. Are you quite comfortable (Вам удобно)?
It’s better if you’re as relaxed as possible before I start to take radiograph
It only takes a few minutes to do the actual test (сделать ЭКГ) but it takes a bit longer to get wired up (установить, поставить провода с контактами). I’m just putting some cream on your wrist and ankles. That’s everything ready. Now just relax as much as you can.
4. Urinalysis is very important (исследование мочи).
5. Dr. Hall has been retired for a good number of years now. I took over his practice Have you been here long?
6. Ultrasound scan
The doctor says: “I’d like you to lie down on this table here. This gel helps to get a contact so that the picture is clear (гель поможет получить лучший контакт с телом, так что изображение получится четким).
We’ll just rub in the gel a little bit and I’ll put on the equipment Now if you turn your head to the left you’ll be able to see the scan as I’m taking it
An ultrasonograph (УЗИ) is a way of examining the patient’s abdomen using a special machine which can show the doctor pictures of the stomach and gall bladder using sound signal. It’s not painful at all and in doesn’t take more then fire or ten minutes to perform (осуществить).
7. This is quite a common condition –
8. I’ll refer you to physiotherapy for advice o specific exercises (направлю).
9. The patient says: “I really just want painkillers so I can get back to work” (болеутоляющие средства).
10. First of all, you lie down on your tummy (разг. «живот») on a hard surface. The floor will do (пол подойдет). Now place your hands on your back and lift one leg up (поднимите) straight without bending your knee (не сгибая колени). Then bring it down and lift the other leg up in the same way and then bring it down. Repeat this exercise five times doing it alternately (делая это попеременно) with each leg.
In the morning do this exercise preferably on an empty stomach before meals (предпочтительно натощак) and try to avoid jerking your body (избегать резких движений тела).
