The monument to the out­standing statesman of Kievan Rus, Prince Volodymyr Svyatoslavych, was unveiled on September 23, 1853. The 20.4-metre-high monu­ment was erected according to a design by the Russian sculptor Vasily Demut-Malinovsky and the architect Konstantin Ton on one of the most picturesque terraces of Volodymiy Hill, which towers 70 metres above the Dnipro. The bronze figure of the prince, which is 4.5 metres high and weighs about 6 tons, is - the work of pro­fessor P. Clodt. St. Volodymyr is dressed in the garb of an ancient Russian warrior, with a princely mantle on his shoulders.
