Marketing

Marketing is the process of identifying the goods and services that consumers need and want and providing those goods and services at the right price, place, and time. Companies promote their products and services through advertising. So, the task of marketers is to create consumers’ awareness of the products or services.

Marketing is a creative industry which includes research, advertising and selling. Its aim is to oversee the consumers’ future needs and wants, which are often discovered through market research.

Marketing includes all business activities involved in getting goods from the manufacturer to the consumer.

So, marketing is the process of creating or directing an organization to be successful in selling a product or service that people not only desire, but are willing to buy.

Marketing mix’

In 1960’s, Professor Neil Borden at Harvard Business School identified a number of company performance actions that can influence the consumer decision to purchase goods or services. Borden suggested that all those actions of the company represented a ‘Marketing mix’. Professor E. Jerome Mc Carthy, also at the Harvard Business School in the early 1960’s, suggested that the Marketing mix contained 4 elements: product (the goods or services), price (the cost of the product), place (often called distribution) and promotion (which aims to make people aware of the product).

In recent years other considerations have been added, giving a mix of at least 3 other Ps: people (or everyone involved from producer to consumer), packaging (the wrapper or the box the product comes in) and phasing (or everything to do with time).
