My University

Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design is a comparatively young higher school both in Ukraine and in Europe. It was only 75 in 2005, while the age of other schools of Europe and Ukraine is more than one hundred.

The University is situated in the Pechersk district of the capital of Ukraine, the city of Kyiv.

Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design numbers more than 12,000 students, 7 faculties, 38 departments (including the Military department), 5 academic buildings, 7 hostels, a sports complex, canteen, cafe, experimental workshops, etc.

At the University specialists are trained (including bachelors, engineers and masters) in 26 specialities (some of them have up to 13 specializations) at full-time and correspondence departments for Ukraine and other countries as well as retraining and refresher courses. More than 70,000 highly-qualified specialists have been trained over the existence of the University. Academicians, professors, doctors of science, winners of state awards, scientists who have been nationally recognized in the field of science, technology and education are among University's graduates. University's graduates have taken up posts of ministers, directors, chief engineers of enterprises, managers of institutions and organizations not only in Ukraine but also in more than 50 countries of the world. In 1995 the University became a member of the world association of Universities «Plato».

There are about 800 scientists and lecturers of the staff, more than 200 post-graduate students, doctorates and graduates working on dissertations who are carrying out the research according to the directions of 11 science schools in the field of light industry, textiles, chemical industry and consumer goods production.

New methods in teaching and research, various media of educational technology are constantly used at the University. The library of the University which was founded in 1930 has valuable editions relating to both economics and applied sciences. It has one million editions that are unique.

There are nine locations of the library each serving the different readers.

There are three reading-rooms and three branches of the library at student's hostels.

There are seven faculties at the University; the light industry technologies faculty, the technological equipment and automated control systems faculty, the engineering-economy faculty, the chemical technologies faculty, the design faculty, the correspondence and external training faculty and the foreign students training faculty.

My Faculty

Due to changes in the structure of national economy and in forms of ownership in Ukraine the striving of the youth for economic knowledge has considerably increased. It is impossible to get any success in production or business without economic knowledge, that's why the engineering economy department which exists from the first days of the University's foundation usually has a great amount of competition in all specialties. Specialists in «Economy of enterprises» are trained in the field of economic analysis and planning at state and private structures, at planned economic, financing and other subdivisions of enterprises, in the system of financial and banking establishments and institutions, design bureaus and educational institutions of different levels.

Graduates of «Organization management» speciality can work at the same structures but in the field of administrative management as linear leaders of subdivisions at enterprises as scientific workers, teachers of educational institutions.

Not long ago a new speciality «Marketing» appeared. Students in this speciality are trained in the field of market research and controlling the process of meeting consumer demands. These specialists can work as marketers, distributors in different companies as engineers of supply and safes departments, organizers and advertisement agents.

In 1999 two new specialities were introduced at the department: " Audit and Accounting” and “Finance”. These specialists are trained for processing accounting and production information, for, effective management of enterprises, for auditing economic and productive activities. Under market economy specialists of finance and credit relationship are of great importance.

The problems of making and using profits and circulation funds, crediting enterprises, financing the main funds, financial sanation and the planning of enterprises, financial policy, find mechanism of making and using financial resources are solved by specialists of «Finance» speciality. Graduates can work both at state and private enterprises and at financial-credit institutions as well: commercial and state banks, tax inspection bodies, fund and stock, exchanges and so on.

A speciality «Economic Cybernetics» was introduced in 2002. A foreign analogue of the speciality is «a system-analyst» specializing in the field of economics. Students acquire thorough knowledge of mathematical methods, computers and economic problem analysis; they are taught how to solve problems using models of various classes and efficient computer aids. Graduates of the speciality can work in different spheres: banking, industry, insurance companies, state and commercial enterprises.

My future speciality

I am a first year student of Kiev State University of Technologies and Design. I may become the economist-engineer after graduating from the university and work at the industrial enterprise, research institute, at any firm or company.

While being at the university the students master the following subjects: statistics, organization and planning of production, branch economics, fundamental of management, marketing, cost-accounting, scientific labor organization, industrial finance and others.

The economist-engineer has to know organization of industrial management, organization and planning of production as well. He must be able to work out long-range and current plans of production, cost-accounting indicators, quota for new types of goods, give scientific of branch development.

Forecasting can not be without research, without the coordinated activity of large teams of research and investigators. Proceeding from the data contained in the forecast, planning bodies are in a position to choose the most effective solutions as regards the trend of development, content which will subsequently lake the shape of plan indices and targets. Forecast are used in varying degree 'at all stages of the plan drafting process and even at the stage of plan-fulfilment itself.

We are taught by a highly-qualified staff of professors and teachers. Our practical training and laboratory works are done in the laboratories equipped with modern installations, apparatuses and devices. Theoretical training is combined with scientific work at the centers and students', design bureaus. As a rule, students write their term papers and graduation theses on the problem connected with their scientific work. They operate experimental and industrial installations, conduct research, work, read scientific literature which deals wit their speciality. It is also combined with practical training at the advanced enterprises. All these help to turn a student into a highly-skilled economist, ready for independent work.

I know that I am to study hard if I want to be a good specialist in my field. I look forward to graduating from the university and showing my best knowledge in practice.
