I. Before you read discuss these questions in pairs.

  1. What helps when a person tries to move ahead in his/her career? (Think about personal qualities and workplace factors).

  2. What practical advice could you give to someone who wants to get ahead in his career? Make a list of three to five points.

II. Scan the article quickly and find out if any of the points in your list are mentioned.

      1. Make a list of your priorities and outline your tasks for the day. Write down your short- and long-term goals, evaluate your progress and stay focused.

      2. Are you really present? You may physically be at work, but are you there mentally? Motivation is a great thing.
